Arrowdane 4
Hi Everyone, My name is Megan, I am a 23 year old sheila from Western Australia.I joined to speak with people that are like minded when it comes to hunting with ferrets & dogs. There are not too may women that hunt near me, and even fewer that do it properly & have a passion for it. I am quite lucky in the respect that my old man owns a farm - we (being my partner and myself) usually hunt kangaroo, emus, rabbits and the odd fox, feral cat or wild dog. The majority of animals that are hunted are all used for either human consumption or pet meat, nothing goes to waste except the dogs, foxes and cats which we do not use but cull purely for vermin control. My partner and I go out as often as we can, we both thoroughly enjoy it . I run a team of ten ferrets - all used for ferreting at various times, obviously not all at once! I breed my own stock and sell to other ferret enthusiast/hunters that want to start up in the sport of ferreting. I also have two danes who obviously aren't the first choice of most hunters however they catch bunnies well when needed and can run down larger game with ease.I hope to learn a bit more from everyone here, as there is always more to learn no matter how much you know!

skycat 6,173
Welcome: be good to see some photos of your Danes: the only ones we see in the UK are show dogs or pets, and I've never yet seen one that looked as though it had any muscle or was in any way fit to run. Gotta hand it to you in Oz: you seem to get the most out of the breeds you have available.

Arrowdane 4
Thankfully the snakes near us bugger off pretty quickly when the weather gets cooler Keepdiggin, means I havent had to encounter that one yet! It gets way to hot for the ferts to go out in summer (40c +) so we only head out in the cooler seasons. The jills come into season during the summer months so instead of working they are usually raising young if I have chosen to breed any that year
