Id never take on a kc bred bull terrier again too many health issues

Heres my lad. He is a Yoruk, a livestock guardian breed from the middle east. In afganistan etc they protect herds of goats against wolves and bears. He loves us and the lurchers and even the ferrets

Bulldog? What type, or cross bred?

its may aswell be pure bull but its 3/4 bull 1/4 american bulldog

is it guard dog or a dog that looks like a guard?

My betting is it barks and growls and that's generally enough.

If a barking, growling bull breed isn't enough to stop them then I doubt much will.

Read a few posts on peoples views of best guard dogs, I personally like rottweilers best, does anybody have a proven stud dog in the Yorkshire area? or do U know of any litter currently about?

not rottie mate, but seen a Bel Mali, the other day a bloke trains them for the cops, not over big 26 in 70 odd lb, but bloody hell very full on+very strong pull bloke down easy, Spoke the fella , and said power when it hits the sleeve, if on the street would feck your arm real bad. Very good guard prob better than a gsd .

i have a gsd and a mali the mali has twice the drive of the gsd but its very easy to over cook them.

most pits love people+kids, there not natural guards like a/bulldogs are, so the above prob picked up the guarding from the a/bulldog .But wouldnt fancy going in there with out the owner lol.But as been said if the scum want to get in they would shoot the dog or posion it, i still a good gsd or Bel mal would put most people off plus they are just as vocal as a jack, and that would let you know anybody about

i think which ever dog is chose it must have a good brain in its head as like you mentioned alot of gaud dogs get poisend(shooting one on a council estate would be rare) the first thing i would be teaching it to do would not to eat off strangers(not sure if that's possible tho)also the dog needs abit of brains to work out whats going on.for example one person distracts the dog and keeps it occupied whilst another persons has your possessions away........but like you say if they want something then they l get it.a lad up the road from me had all his dogs taken a wile back his dog was barking at roughly the same time every night for about 5 days he,d go out to check but nothing was there and the one night he didn't check he woke up to a lot of empty pens and just one dog......

its not a guard dog to a high standard just your average dog that will guard i guess

does a few little tricks that are decent enough to put you off, ramming the gate back and forth is one but i know hes playing about with me as i know him

barking and snarling when needed all you need in many cases
