ox1973 2
The only guarding breed I've owned are ambulls, recently lost my big male who was only bought as a pet but his natural guarding instinct was unreal. Didn't even like strangers talking to me whilst on a walk Quote Link to post

morton 5,368
Read a few posts on peoples views of best guard dogs, I personally like rottweilers best, does anybody have a proven stud dog in the Yorkshire area? or do U know of any litter currently about? Ive had a few dogs stolen in the past,my own fault for living to close to Bradford?.my detterent now is an Akita, the 3rd we have had here in the last 20 years,i have never had a dog stolen for 20 years,if they get past the Akita they can have all and sundry with pleasure, they will have earnt it,Rottys are lazy fat fecks that enjoy their kip,Akitas, proper uns, earn their snap. The only problem ive encountered was recent, the lurcher bitch and the Akita had a set to,the lurcher came a poor third and will miss the start of the season as she recovers,i split them up after 10 seconds, any numpty that wishes to engage the said pooch fo a tad longer will never attempt to filch a dog again.Get an Akita and not a lazy Rotty with little stamina. what was Akita male or female,? as better guards seem to be males of most guard breeds.? First 2 males,to full on at times, the one now is a bitch, more controllable and easier to have about the place,at times.I feel the trouble with a lot of these type dogs is they are an accident waiting to happen, even in an experienced and more careful environment, the security that they bring outweighs the accident in waiting. Off topic I know mate, but why do you think Akitas make good guards? I know they do,seen a couple myself, but as far as I know they're all either bred for show or to be a pet and still throw good guards. But pet bred shepards etc are shit. Quote Link to post

The reason they make good guard dogs, the ones ive owned and a couple i know others have had, they are large and look menacing, which will put off an high percentage of scrotes, they bark loudly when they are disturbed, which again is all thats needed at times to make the scrotes search elsewhere for easier pickings. Then if needed they will most definitely engage the more resolute scrote. They are easy to have about the house and garden, are tolerant of family and grandkids and on the whole mix with the other mutts, apart from an odd indiscretion, which ive only encountered with the bitch. It's the part where they will actually do something that's the hard part, your average pet bred dog of any breed wouldn't have a go. Lots of people think they will but they usually won't.
