mattydski 560
Could I have some owner reviews of Petrol powered log splitters please? I am talking about high end consumer units, not professional units. Under a grand and up to 12 tons pressure. I can fair swing an axe, so I dont need reviews on 4 tonne electric ones from Machinemart... Thanks I need decent, workable gear.. cheers!! Matty

mattydski 560
A decent petrol will be more than a grand new Cookie Dont disagree with ya, but dont have more than a grand kicking about.. I use a fair bit of firewood, but dont need a professional machine. There a re a few units kicking about.. 'Rock' 'Titan' etc 7-8 tonne units that would fit the bill... £800 quid mark... sikastag_1 689
My father in law got a petrol mate and its the business far better than pissing about with tractors etc ill try and find out the specs on it and get back to you but you get some amount of wood split with a tank of petrol. cookiemonsterandmerlin 145
Agree I rather have good second hand unit than one of them but there like rocking horse its like timber you could not give it away five years back now everman and his dog wants it. I have a look at the make of mine TBH the ones that tilt or are vertical splitting are crap your forever fight the log the flat one are hard work to get the logs on but are quicker two people can shift some cubic meters though them . PS I know your not daft but there really dangerous if a log pops out under 10 ton pressure seen some smashed jaws from misuse ATB Cookie

moxy 617
PS I know your not daft but there really dangerous if a log pops out under 10 ton pressure seen some smashed jaws from misuse The splitters you have been using must be shite if a log can pop out. I have seen the odd mishap with the saw bench. But never a log popping out under load. All our gear is tractor mounted but I put up a similar thread a while back and had some good responses. I will have a look for it matty.
cookiemonsterandmerlin 145
Moxy nothing to do with machine user error EG some wood is just so stressed its does weird things and if the user does not notice the moverment in the wood it can springed out at a fair speed and sometimes back toward the user You done this sort of work Moxy when its all knotty it can be a bitch if your not careful ATB Cookie
moxy 617
I tell a lie. I found the thread and not much use. My mate was looking at these but he never bit the bullet. http://www.titan-pro.co.uk/electric-hydraulic-log-splitter/27/Category.aspx There is a demo on YouTube. moxy 617
You done this sort of work Moxy when its all knotty it can be a bitch if your not careful ATB Cookie I spend most of my winters splitting wood and have built the odd splitter or two. The machine I have now rarely gets stuck. But it has about 20 ton behind it on a single blade.
Froudy 40
The ones we use to sell had 5 years warranty with them and never repaired any, couldn't comment on what they are like as never used one just heard good reviews from customers, if I was using it for everyday work for budiness I would spend more but if it is for use every now and then for general logging might be worth a look at Atb Froudy
