swg dave 334
A lurcher Yapping, while chasing, have you ever owned, one ?,, i had a bedlington whippet that started yapping out on the lamp, and i kept him up until he was 16 months old hoping the yapping would stop, but it got worse. he was not entered to early, and he was trained to a very high standard. I ended up giving him up as a pet, and to say i was upset is an understatement, it broke my heart, but i needed a quiet dog because a dog yapping at night really travels, and this dog could yap, just wondered,, have you ever owned a yapper and if so did the yapping stop........... s.e.s.k.u 1,893
I bet a lot of dogs that yap do it out of frustration ? Unfit, entered too young , too much too young ? Long hard slips ? .....loads of threads on here in past , and also if there is terrier in the mix surely that increases the risk of a yap ? 3 Quote Link to post
swg dave 334
The first time out, he yapped on the lamp, and i can honestly say in my mind and heart i just knew that he would be a yapper, but i kept telling myself this will stop, but really knowing, and my gut feeling telling me different. Its hard to come to terms when something like this happens, especially what with all the hard work that we put into our growing pups, hoping and wanting them to mature in to that special hunter, provider, and companion that provide us with up to a decade of pure pleasure of watching them work, and in many cases, many a good rabbit pie lol. As stated above, i just could not have a dog yapping, as this dog was going to be used on the lamp, i did not want every rabbit in the adjacent fields to be alerted of my presence, and out of respect i also didn,t need any farmers stiring from their slumber from the sound of a yapper.. Sirius 1,391
Yes, I am sure it's just one of those things,it's in them or it isn't. No doubt can be made worse by incorrect entering, but if its there it's there. Gutting to find out after 10-11 months of raising and training that is a yapper, then you have to decide IF you can live with it. I can't. Edited August 24, 2013 by Sirius Quote Link to post

buster gonads 862
I,v never had one so i dont know weather it could be cured, if i did have one and the dog did every thing else well i,d want to keep it, i,d find it some other work to do for a while, i,d proberbly try ratting with it [cant see it yapping on the rats] then try re-entering it on rabbits at a later date, i wouldnt give up on a good dog just because it yapped, buster.
