Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
Mate I was shooting the hw100 at 36 yards today testing pellets, changing from Ftt 14.6gr, bang on zero, to bisley magnum 21gr the drop was about 200 miles wasn't really, but it was a good couple of inches, half a turn roughly on my elevation turret! and the noise they made upon impact, feck me, I know why Daz loves that rapid in .25 2 Quote Link to post

As long as i keep My max range to 55 yards the 25.4 Gr pellets are still hitting with something like 7.5 ft lbs but with a Massive Kinetic punch. atvb Daz 7 1 Quote Link to post

barrywhite 282
I go for light pellets in spring gun .heavy pellets can give a massive power drop from spring guns . 1 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
David James who posts youtube vids under the name Hunters vermin shoots an HW97KT with Bisley magnums as the pellet of his choice for that rifle. Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
As has already been said, especially in .22 with a springer you'll suffer a fair old drop in power. If the thing's doing around 11 for example, expect a drop to around 9.5. In .177 however, I've had very good results with these. The muzzle energy is a little lower ( relatively) but they fly very well and hit hard at distance. Worth a try. Quote Link to post
Andy_c 210
How about aa field plus or jsb jumbo heavy or am I going to find the same? Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Generally, .22 heavyweight pellets like Magnums, AA Field Plus or JSB Exact Jumbos don't perform well from spring rifles in this calibre. There might be exceptions, but, as I say, in .22 calibre, sub-12ft/lb Weihrauch spring rifles are, generally, best with a 14 to 16 grain weight pellet. They tend to go off the accuracy scale when you start using a hefty .22 pellet over these weights. .177 has more likelyhood of success though. I have found the .177 Bisley Magnums to be very accurate in my .177 HW97K. But they are heavy and thus are a slower flier which, robs you of the advantage of .177 as a faster, flatter-flying round that hits hard. So I steer clear as a rule. There's just no real need for a heavyweight slug like that In .22 they are honestly useless in a spring rifle! If you 97' is .22, try using Crossman Premier, Daystate Li, or Webley Accupell. These are all Premiers under different labels but they are consistent and well-made pellets and if your barrel likes them, it'll love em! Both Li's and Accupells are absolutely spot on with my HW77 .22. For .177 I can't fault H&N FTT in my HW97K. In .22 they are not quite as consistently well made as once they were. What you must insist on from your kit is absolute accuracy first and foremost. The most accurate pellet from your barrel is what you have to find and stick with. Not how heavy it is. From a sub12 .22 there is more than enough grunt in a 14.3 grain diablo to kill any small airgun quarry at reasonable range, believe me! Edit to add. No doubt there will be someone who has an HW spring rifle and shoots AA Extras/JSB Jumbos very well. But not in my direct experience. And that's all I have to go on here.
