Kaiserdog 20
Just wondering how many out there inoculate their ferrets against canine distemper? I was at the vets the other day getting the dog jabbed & the vet said it was a good idea to do the ferrets, I've never had one go down with distemper, or is just a ploy by the vet to bleed me £20 per ferret?? GreyRake 108
It mainly affects rescues and other places that hold a lot of ferrets together. Some ferrets that have had the injections have still died from distemper too, its not had much testing for ferrets. I haven't had mine done. Quote Link to post
onthehunt 40
An excuse for yet another fleecing from the vet, mate. Forget it lol the ferrets don't need it. Only time I'd recommend it if the ferret comes into contact with foxes or badgers a lot or gets bitten by one, cos that's the only scenario you'd really have a problem with distemper. Blind Hawk 57
Jabs they will live without as long as you keep their pens and bedding clean A propper diet and an ocasional flea and worm treatment 1 Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Don't know of any cases of C.D in ferrets, or any one who's had it, keep your cages clean, feed them well, and change your water bottles every day, and your ferrets will live to have a grey beard down to their bollocks 1 Quote Link to post
Edinburgh 2
I vaccinate mine, once every 3 yrs. we live in an area where we can meet a lot of wildlife and i take mine out a lot so i dont want to risk it. There was a cd outbreak a couple of yrs back down south and 200 ferrets got wiped out most were vaccinated, the only ones that survived were vaccinated with Nobivac Dhppi. So its a bit hit and miss really. Mine also get vaccinated with nobivac. It is entirely a personal thing i chose to because of where we live. Quote Link to post
