Garypco 3
had a good look through that kennel gary......is a bit of german blood there but no more than my own dogs here in nz, alot of show ch blood and also a fair bit of kimmax blood.your right about the imported lines, danish, norwegian and german, but it's not pure drathaar blood. not all of it is but they now have new drathaar blood in the kennels and have just aquired a puppy from ddw theyre main thing is they work theyre dogs 100% and all pups born will be docked with vet certs as new law requires,im not sayin what they have betters kimmax it certainly equals the blood they have they won the gamekeepers team in crufts this year, amongst other things the only difference i brag is all theyre dogs are genuinely bred to work first!!! also vonwillebrans disease free lines!!! the showing is done by theyre daughters for a little fun! roybo 2,873
thanks kiwi thats the kind of answer i was looking for mate so basically you mean they're a "general" type of hunting dog not as specialised as say a springer or cocker,or lab etc, i take it they'd be a good choice for a rough shooter/moocher? Thanks mate Roy Quote Link to post
macberran 2
my little springer Fern never had a milli-sec off work, no way ...and thats all she did. up.. workeat(if time)work..sit down ...try too work. a days work ..I need too work some more . asleep.wait for work.wait too work, I should be at work. against others of the same ilk she was bit more so I suppose I'm looking at a more flexible dog. She was a too me a wee stunnner though. and hard too beat.........................funny but as we're on that, too use an analogy , she was a john bonham...just a wee bit more,a wee bit too fast. harrycatcat 31
I had a GSP 20 od years ago I dont know what blood lines it had or anything like that but I will tell you something it was the best feckin dog you could wish for for shooting retreiving, house dog everything. It nearly brought me tea and tost in a morning. But if it did not have loads and loads and loads of exercise it used to drive you crackers. Unless you have loads of time dont have one! kiwi 4
if you look at the title again harry, it's a wirehair thread why people think the gsp and gwp are the same breed has me stumped. are cockers and springers the same breed Quote Link to post
harrycatcat 31
Sorry mate I thought it said GSP it must be all the wine I am drinking giving me double vision. I have been celebrating the start of our duck season. You are not getting crabby cos yours has just ended are you ????????????? How long have you to wait Quote Link to post
kiwi 4
nah not crabby about the end of the season, we have a few weekend culls on shelducks, swan and geese before the bird season starts again in may...time to chase a few pigs and shoot a few more deer before the fishing heats up in november, plenty to do. i do get a bit  when trying to talk about one breed and the facts get confused, the same thing happens when discussing the merits of a certain breed and some clown chimes in with he had a x of the breed and it was this and that or another pet hate when ya talk pigdogs and they can't see pass a pitbull or bull cross .............all fun i guess Quote Link to post
gwplover 0
all show lines kiwi thay dont work theyre stock [bANNED TEXT] the best working lines here at the moment with imported working lines are mustwork kennels http://www.mustwork.co.uk/ les is a full time gamekeeper and his daughters and wife do a little showing as well basically they breed for working drive first and show second, they have a litter due in sept sometime although im not sure if they have anyleft these pups will be docked with a vet cert as well [bANNED TEXT] theres not many others docking anymore as they dont work like they say they do!!!! Thats quite an inaccurate sweeping statement Gary! ^_^ Bareve have bred dual purpose show and working stock for over 30years. Over the years they have imported dogs from Holland, Germany and America to improve the bloodlines over here. Their latest German import is the only Field Trial first prize winner in this country and the most successful working import not to mention being the most successful GWP in the showring in this country. There is nothing wrong with breeding for looks and working ability and temperament and health, luckily the breed in this country can have an equal measure of success in both the field and ring even if puppies never actually go into a competitive environment. We should be breeding with all of these things in mind. There are many kennels like Bareve, Kimmax and others who are striving to maintain the breed dual purpose abilities so it doesn't become split like some of the spaniel/retriever breeds. In terms of the best purely 'working kennel' in this country at the moment (although even these look good enough to be showdogs too) it is undoubtably the Bryantscroft kennel. This is still the only kennel to produce Field Trial Champions in the breed most recently in the 06/07 season. Edited October 3, 2007 by gwplover Quote Link to post
