Dan Davies 7
To some this may seem like a silly question! however i want peoples views on collies in a lurcher? of course they are very intelligent dogs, however do people feel they are necessary? and also a few comments on the grey x bull x collie Quote Link to post
david.kean.21 34
your right . is it a silly question Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Necessary for what? That's a massive open question.Of course we don't NEED collie blood. Dogs would work and catch without it but there are ALOT of advantages to collie in my opinion.I don't particularly want or need a half cross collie, they aren't my kind of dog. But I think a splash ofCollie goes a long way to making a decent working dog.My new pup I'm getting in a couple of weeks has got a splash of collie in her. The sire was 1/4 collie and it was very noticeable in him and made him a pleasure to have around with his obedience etc. Quote Link to post
hubbs 178
I've got to agree with gaz a touch of collie in my opinion makes them a pleasure to have around ! I think too much and they can be too cleaver for what I do picking and choosing runs ! That's my experience I like a splash though nice to have a dog with abit of brains 1 Quote Link to post

baw 4,360
There is no more versatile cross in my humble opinion than a good 3/4 grey collie. Quote Link to post
BORDERSCOT 3,816
There is no more versatile cross in my humble opinion than a good 3/4 grey collie. Stamina can be a wee issue though....feet sometimes could be better and to be honest they'll not stand the out and out hard graft of other collie xs.... But then...that's just my opinion..... Having said the above though....there's every chance that the best dog I ever had was a 3/4 bred grey collie.... 3 Quote Link to post

It's a broad reference though ain't it mate. It's like saying saluki crosses have endless stamina..... I've seen them carried off the field PREBAN. Sure a good collie cross will never have the stamina of a good saluki cross but PREBAN I've had 3/4 crossies able to run 3/4 chases and well into double figures on whities PREBAN, what more do you really want? Feet wise, had them with tight feet able to run plough and heather no probs. one of the worst dog I had feet wise was a bullx. Quote Link to post

KittleRox 2,147
collie x bull/grey not everyones cup of tea as has been mentioned can be a bit picky on there runs and can be frustrating if you haven,t got the temperament to match the style, picking runs ain't neccesarily a bad thing, plus lots of stamina and near bombproof 3 Quote Link to post
