Aaron you won't regret switching your 97s KT thumbhole for a sporter stock. I swapped my 97KTH for Skot's 97 Bavarian sporter stock and it's turned it at a stroke into a bloody sweet handling rifle for it. And the classical "Tartan" diamond cut chequering is beautiful.

 

But now, I'm really having a genuine quandry as to what to shoot in the comp.

 

Both my HW97K .177 and HW77 .22 are now refined by Andy and Tony Wall's magic and bits. And now, they shoot their very best I've known of them yet. I held my .177 TX200HC in awe for its accuracy but, now, these two Germans are thrashing its arse.

 

Out practicing all day yesterday produced very satisfying groups at all competition ranges and four bunnies on a mooch in the evening dusk.

 

Don't think I'll be joining the ever-growing HW98 club here just yet. However tempting that rifle is!

I took mine along with me and Davy for the ride on Sat night Aaron.

 

Arrived at the farm and within 1 minute of being there the 98 smashed a rat in the farm yard.

 

An almighty crack as the Falcon AP pellet smashed through it with a heart and lung shot.

 

I'm not sure how to test the this rifle to its limits its now that good .

 

I think they are black hole rifles. Darker than any dark side.

T.H.L meet will be held at

Old down pursuits

For those unfamiliar with the meet and what it entails, I shall give a brief outline.
Basically it is a two day event with camping on-site, motor homes are welcome, but no utilities are available. Also no dogs this year I am afraid. Food will be down to yourself to bring with you.
The essence of the whole weekend is to have fun, although there is a fun HFT competition. It really is just about being there and making friends and renewing old acquaintances.
Open to all Air rifles that are non-FAC.
Friday;

Will be a day of setting up camp, zero range, parking, and erect long range shot. Also assessing the field for suitable ground for our tents and vehicles, and making sure the shower room is clean for use! So if you have the Friday free and would like to help set up, and then please come along!

SATURDAY;
basically this is the social day, there is a plinking range available and one or two other side shoots/demo's for everybody to use/try. It gives everybody a chance to try other stuff such as rifles and scopes and get to know each other. About 5-6pm the BBQ will be fired up and cooking and eating shall commence. Just bring what you want to eat with you, and maybe little extra and that way everybody gets fed a bit of everything. If you would like to bring your own cooking equipment then please do!

There will be a couple of in camp competitions on the Saturday after breakfast, which will include air rifle darts, a long range elevated target to try out, five shot LR blank’s target, bell target and I am sure Si Pittaway will have some other competition running to, spring piston I would imagine?

Once the rifles have been put away the camp fire is stoked and the real socialising commences, bring your own drink of choice, and be prepared to share and have other drinks forced upon you!
We retired about 4.30am? Last year, but an early retirement is not frowned upon Si!
With couples and teenagers around the banter is great fun, and good natured just like on the T.H.L., we would ask if there are small kids present, please refrain from using colourful language!

SUNDAY;
basically wake up to the smell of Wurz making breakfast for who wants it? There is a café near which I can direct you to. Five minute walk for a (FE) full English breakfast at your own cost. And at 10:15am a safety brief then about 10:45am there will be a 30 shot HFT competition. After the shoot there will be a trophy giving ceremony, as soon as the scores are complete!

If you have not shot a competition before, do not worry. Si will hold a short demonstration and a lot of member’s first taste of HFT is at the meet. Some going on to become active HFT'ers!
The social side cannot be over emphasised, this is the 6th meet already and great friendships have been forged. Couples, ladies and young members are encouraged, the more the merrier! I am sure that covers most aspects of the meet. Any questions please ask Davyt63 or Zini

Arrival is from Friday 12:00pm: And the final cost is to be £17.00 for the weekend camping, plus £6.00 for the H.F.T competition, any monies raised after covering the costs of the meet/toilet hire/land rent, will be going to a fund a meet for hunting life regulars F.O.C.
