DUCKWING 302
NO HAZEL ??? TRY PRIVET HEDGES ........ CUT THE NICE FRESH LIGHT COLOURED WANDS ............. MOST WILL BE LOVELY AND STRAIGHT ....... IDEAL FOR THE LONGNET ALL THE BEST DUCKWING Quote Link to post
Ricky-N.p.p 0
privet hedges ?? thats the hedges foks have trimmed round there gardens right ? wouldnt have thought of using them Theres been alot of talk about these plant sticks from b&q lately as an alternative to the fibre glass ones for the quick set nets, having spoken to a lad who is using both he recons that the b&q ones do the same job but wont last as long, now i am awaiting the matterials to make a 100yrd quickset to arrive in the post just now so took a trip along to b&q and bought some of these plant sticks, they are made of some sort of metal tubing coated with a green ribbed plastic, they are 90cm in lenth and 8mm thick and also verry light and at 59 pence per stick ideal if you ask me ! lets be honest its not as if i'm putting them on a quality hand tied longnet its cheap nasty 4z sheet netting that wont last more than a couple of seasons anyway so what is the point in spending 4 quid per stick ? if a few sticks need replacing then i'll just replace them....simple ! TOMO 26,435
CANT FIND ANY HAZEL ROUND HERE, ARE YOU SURE YOU KNOW WHAT A HAZEL LOOKS LIKE. LIKE DUCKWING SAID USE PRIVET OR CHESTNUT. CHESTNUT WANDS OFTEN GROW AT THE BASE OF THE TREES. STILL ITS ALL BEST COLLECTED IN WINTER Quote Link to post
mole catcher 1
Ash is also a very nice material to use. why not try willow? its everywhere you have a river and its very light. bit more whippy than hazle when green but stiff when seasoned. Quote Link to post

I got a load for a quid each, used my angle grinder to take the heads off and leave a point. then trim the rubber handles to whatever length you want. very light and strong and cheap Work a treat on my quickset colin Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
Legend has it, that the flag poles from a golf course make two very nice longnet poles, and even have a solid plastic push on ball at the top, apparently they are fibreglass, and usually get left out all night. Not that i,m in any way condoning their theft of course. Quote Link to post
