man o kent 269
Looking at a lot of posts and photos on here there appears to be more bull blood going into the modern digging dogs. They certainly look very impressive, and attract lots of admiring comments and likes, but does that make them better workers? When I look at the old pics of working tykes, they seem a lot slimmer, longer muzzled, and generally scruffy looking. I am no expert, and it is personal preference I know (I have soft spot for old type russells), but when I see these dogs I wonder, would that really be spannable? Would that bay and bolt a fox, or be more interested in finishing things under the sod? Fashions change, but always for the better? What are your thoughts people Quote Link to post

I think sometimes you might be suprised to find Bull in dogs that have no bully features at all. I think people consider the bull simply because of deep gameness. There is also less need for baying dogs with all the technology. A dog that is usually quicker to fight than most bulls is the Lakeland, and there aint many Russels free of that blood despite some of the famous breeders denying it till blue in the face. 1 Quote Link to post

man o kent 269
A dog fit for purpose, and stout of heart, as opposed to a dog fit for showing and just plain stout Quote Link to post
rob284 1,682
Been looking for a pup for a while, but every litter I come across has big bully parents. Which isn't what I'm after. I agree Quote Link to post
Cleanspade 3,324
i.m of the opinion that if a dog dosnt use its voice its flawed. i dont mind bull blood but like a terrier to be able to get to a fox so size and build is an issue . as is nose. to much bull tends to make a terrier to chesty and to hard for what i would want. i also think a lot of bull as been added . that is the wrong sort. as some believe that any bull terrier will give what they need. coat type and pelt can suffer also. i wouldnt look for bull in terriers. but i wouldnt knock it either. 2 Quote Link to post
