sandymere 8,263
14 weeks is young for more than an introduction to hard exercise and swimming is pretty hard. At that age I let it potter about as much as possible and watch that it is developing equally. If you need to then with the warm weather a river or lake should be fine for an introduction to swimming with retrieving a ball etc, build up very gradually and keep an eye its using the weak limb, sometimes as they tire they use it less which can increase the muscle imbalance. As it grows you can combine with road work at a trot to encourage it to use the muscles equally start for 5 mins max and build up as the pups matures. Trotting means it has to take all weight on the limb unlike walking but without the stress of galloping. I got one of mine sound with trotting after having a very weak hind leg having suffered a back injury as a pup. 2 Quote Link to post
Westy76 546
I was told 1 minute swimming equals a mile running Quote Link to post
fazza123 517
That's what I thought sandy, with her being so young I didn't want to over face her. If she's never swam before then it wouldn't be fair to expect her too with 3 legs so to speak? Quote Link to post
