Hydrotherapy

Recommended Posts

Any coursing lads/lasses used hydrotherapy to help a dog on? My pups 14 weeks and just had a splint taken off, had a tiny fracture on her back leg and can't decide whether to leave her to get better naturally or take her swimming at a canine hydro centre which costs £250 for 10 sessions. The vets expect a 100 percent recovery anyway but if I can do anything positive for her I will !

Any thoughts appreciated!

Yes I could I suppose, they just promote all this that warm water helps more. She puts weight on it now and no pain there but her foot is a little bent in and obviously very little muscle. I'm just wondering whether I'm just jumping the gun and let her get better on her own?

My pup broke her leg when she was 14 weeks old after the op ect I used to take her down the the old quarry whee we used Togo swimming and go in waist deep and support her while she swam back done this for about 20 mins twice a week for 6 weeks. I think it helped. Save yourself 250 and get yourself down the rivers or if you live by the sea even better, I recon the cold water is better as it gets the blood flow going quicker

Cheers mate, that's what I'll do. 250 does seem steep? Did your pup make a full recovery? I'm told mine will but it's always a worry

I've just rung a farmer to borrow a trough paulas, the wife will love that in the back yard :)

We've got a hydro tank at work tbh it's more hassle then it's worth for us filling it up etc etc we usually just go a local cannal one where on person can walk each side of it and have a big rope and pull the dog to the middle of it. And walk with it 500m one way then 500m back pulling the dog to one side for boats etc. Maybe you could try that instead might help atb

Can't rate hydro enough used it on 3 dogs cruciate, stress fracture and total lack of muscle worked wonders in all cases but your price is criminal!!!! £12 for 1 dog or £25 for 3 dogs per session

Never had to use it for injuries thankflly but I do have a home made set up I use to help condition the dogs after the summer lay off. If you have space I really recomend 1, if you want to heat water up a tad pool heaters are next to fook all if you shop around...
