Collie Greyhound

Recommended Posts

Early 80's I sold a half cross bitch to a guy who later bred her to a greyhound to produce 3/4 breds and a young Templeking got a black pup which he called Ben. Ben became probably the best 3/4 greyhound/collie lurcher I've seen at hares.....I wonder did you ever keep any pix of him TK?

I've ran 3/4 breds...one of the best dogs I ever had was a Hancock 3/4 by Taffy away back in the mid 1980s...had some great days and nights...had stamina limits though....greyhoundy feet and was hard

I got a 5/8 grey 3/8 collie from 2 hancock dogs, though not directly from his yard............she's been a honest bitch over the years, switched right on to the ferreting game, a great "companion" dog

Finn my first x collie/grey...   Done all I have asked....looking forward to winter.....

Some canny looking dogs and interesting topic...

Has anyone ever seen or known of a working collie going over a line bred saluki lurcher...

Pictures and a tale would be good ...

no not me self, but you would think it would a very good x, with bags of stamina on both sides, and plenty of prey drive as well. Maybe if the dam was the collie and the sire the coursing dog, you might have more chance of a pup, as coursing bloke wouldnt keep this type pups from his dam, just use his sire for the right cash.

Would be interesting..

Folk like first cross collie greys..

Wonder how a first cross collie - saluki would turn out...

Like you say in theory it should have some good traits stamina, feet , intelligence and hunting / prey drive..

I have a saluki grey - collie grey lurcher lurcher breeding, to young to say how it will fair..

I don't think I have heard of any "first crosses"...

Maybe one for David and Sally :laugh:

I "might" give this cross a go one time..

i ran a first x salukie collie 20 years ago and he killed hares for fun . 3 out of 3 on a regular basis. Not the quickest but got his job done.

What older lads!!! :hmm: ........Ha we used collie crosses for years before we realised saluki crosses were better for the hares. Did you ever hear of a dog called the Tank from the Shankill or a bitch called Paint from east Belfast? It was in the early 50's when my old pal Slasher Magill's bitch Paint sent the Tank home with his tail between his legs...good dog that he was none the less!

The collie greyhound is a great cross if you drop on a good one, I cut my teeth on these dogs and had some crackers and also some not so good, but just alatley ive been talking to a lad I sold a pup too some fifteen years ago.

The breeding is mainly david james its exact pedigree is typp out of nixons drum and gena she was of butlers moss and persons bonie they was i think nine or ten genarations of collie to collie cross.

I put typp to an irish greyhound which I also have the pedigree for, the exact breeding on paper can be worked out in percentages but this was many moons ago, anyway I asked him if he would let me take him to have some sperm/straws taken and he said no problem. It would be good to know if this would be a possibility at 15
