I've ran 3/4 breds...one of the best dogs I ever had was a Hancock 3/4 by Taffy away back in the mid 1980s...had some great days and nights...had stamina limits though....greyhoundy feet and was hard

I got a 5/8 grey 3/8 collie from 2 hancock dogs, though not directly from his yard............she's been a honest bitch over the years, switched right on to the ferreting game, a great "companion" dog

Finn my first x collie/grey...   Done all I have asked....looking forward to winter.....

How about other breeders of the collie lines?

James is a name I have heard and seen some nice stuff off.

What would be the way to start a line off from scratch?..

2 collies and 2 greys is a start.
1 collie and 2 Grey's would be a better start imo

2 greys a border and a beardie of working type, would be good if you was young, rich etc etc.

Bit of bull in the mix too.....job done....

beardie/border/grey x bull/grey ..... maybe get him over a beardie/border x grey in the future if all goes to plan

I think bull adds more then just power and strength ?..

maybe, but for me the major benefit is that it minimizes the chance of the nervy, sensitive collie traits developing. I'm not saying that all collie x's are nervy/sensitive, but a outcross to the bullx just seems throw more mentally level offspring.

interesting.........and a serious question............but why ? has he too much bull ? are you looking to increase the collie side ? would the wee bit extra collie brains maybe take something away from the bull brawn so to speak ? or even vice versa ?...........i've not seen many but any collie grey x bull grey ive saw work have been more than capable, i'm just curious about the proportions and the logic behind them

Dytkos

Nice that, very strong..was it a good dog

It would have been I think, too heavy for hares but I got him for foxes and he was good, day and night. First one solo at about 12 months, handy on the rabs as well.(lamping).

Pikeys stole him at just over 2YO so I never got to see his full potential.

Very few deer around my way at that time but he had a few when we went out with the Cumbrian lads.

Cheers, D.

Some canny looking dogs and interesting topic...

Has anyone ever seen or known of a working collie going over a line bred saluki lurcher...

Pictures and a tale would be good ...

no not me self, but you would think it would a very good x, with bags of stamina on both sides, and plenty of prey drive as well. Maybe if the dam was the collie and the sire the coursing dog, you might have more chance of a pup, as coursing bloke wouldnt keep this type pups from his dam, just use his sire for the right cash.

Would be interesting..

Folk like first cross collie greys..

Wonder how a first cross collie - saluki would turn out...

Like you say in theory it should have some good traits stamina, feet , intelligence and hunting / prey drive..

I have a saluki grey - collie grey lurcher lurcher breeding, to young to say how it will fair..

I don't think I have heard of any "first crosses"...

Maybe one for David and Sally :laugh:

I "might" give this cross a go one time..
