Chid 6,495
How about other breeders of the collie lines? James is a name I have heard and seen some nice stuff off. What would be the way to start a line off from scratch?.. 2 collies and 2 greys is a start.1 collie and 2 Grey's would be a better start imo How about other breeders of the collie lines? trenchfoot 4,243
Bit of bull in the mix too.....job done.... They do turn out well, but then is a colliex or just a lurcher? Sire 1st x collie grey, Dam1stx bull/grey x slauki grey Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
Then its just a lurcher ... Quote Link to post
trenchfoot 4,243
Then its just a lurcher ... I agree. Though with age some of the collie traits and brain are now starting to shine through. Either way, I enjoy watching him at work. Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
I think bull adds more then just power and strength ?.. Quote Link to post
trenchfoot 4,243
I think bull adds more then just power and strength ?.. maybe, but for me the major benefit is that it minimizes the chance of the nervy, sensitive collie traits developing. I'm not saying that all collie x's are nervy/sensitive, but a outcross to the bullx just seems throw more mentally level offspring. 1 Quote Link to post

dytkos 17,784
Dytkos Nice that, very strong..was it a good dog It would have been I think, too heavy for hares but I got him for foxes and he was good, day and night. First one solo at about 12 months, handy on the rabs as well.(lamping). Pikeys stole him at just over 2YO so I never got to see his full potential. Very few deer around my way at that time but he had a few when we went out with the Cumbrian lads. Cheers, D. Quote Link to post
BOLIO1 1,078
3/4 greyhound / 1/4collie dog I ran about 25 years ago....killed hares in small fields in Ireland but wouldn't have cut the mustard on big land with proper slips. 2 Quote Link to post
Giro 2,648
Some canny looking dogs and interesting topic... Has anyone ever seen or known of a working collie going over a line bred saluki lurcher... Pictures and a tale would be good ... no not me self, but you would think it would a very good x, with bags of stamina on both sides, and plenty of prey drive as well. Maybe if the dam was the collie and the sire the coursing dog, you might have more chance of a pup, as coursing bloke wouldnt keep this type pups from his dam, just use his sire for the right cash. Would be interesting.. Folk like first cross collie greys.. Wonder how a first cross collie - saluki would turn out... Like you say in theory it should have some good traits stamina, feet , intelligence and hunting / prey drive.. I have a saluki grey - collie grey lurcher lurcher breeding, to young to say how it will fair.. I don't think I have heard of any "first crosses"... Maybe one for David and Sally I "might" give this cross a go one time.. Quote Link to post
