pip1968 2,490
sadly hes not the first veteran to be shafted by authority and i have no doubt he wont be the last, i am in no way condoning what he did but i am understanding it, unlike that judge. this does not mean veterans have free range to commit crimes but i do think that every opportunity should be offered to sort the problems and not sentence because of the symptoms. you only have to look at what happened to john rambo it could have been alot worse

stabba 10,745
The clue is the "mental health problems" Surely some sort of detention in a physcho ward/hospital would be more comparable to jail where he wont get the treatment he so sorely needs. Yet be a sports hero or some such and they throw all the help you'll ever need at you. Same as filthy alkies/junkies who have never given their country one jot of themselves in a positive way. The law is an ass and so are the ones meting it out.

Astanley 11,568
The thing is every case should be judged individually ,if ten people wave a gun at policemen through a window should they all get the same sentence ? Should the cornered smack dealer , with loads of previous get the same as a long serving soldier with mental health problems , caused as a direct result of serving his country ? I don't think so , and you will have every variation inbetween , different circumstances warrant different sentences .
cookiemonsterandmerlin 145
Its can be linked to combat stress but also a it could be personality trait thats made worst though combat and its training its about controled aggression ,yet some keep the aggression not ever combat troop is the full ticket Cookie

I thought it was more hands on then. I should explain - I meant that intense, 'full-on' combat is now a regular and 'normal' part of military service. Example-I have 4 uncles who all served over 20 years each,as well as a cousin who served 12 years - not one of them ever fired a shot in anger, but I recently saw a documentary where a Company of troops (Para's I think) came under hostile fire every single day, sometimes several times a day, for 4 weeks. World Wars are rare events (thankfully!) - being shot at by the Taliban is not! Edited August 15, 2013 by Blackbriar

gonetoearth 5,144
So basically if you been in the army you've got free rein to do as you please then?. No lab but dont train a gaurd dog and when it bites some fooker start wondering why , We spend thousands training these lads. And yet instead of redirecting this asset we just let the walk out in to civi st i know before people jump in , that there is a certain amount of retraining But these lads need direction some can not switch off the nation owes them ,
