The Rabbit Vanishes!

Recommended Posts

Went down the permission this evening with a view to liberate more rabbits from the burden of life! Got the gun out checked the zero, all good. Got in the blind made by a fallen tree, got sight of a rabbit stretched out in the sun. Lasered the distance, 60 metres. Used the branch to stabilise the shot, got lined up, fired, rabbit somersaulted and vanished. I go to see where it went and a rabbit bolts for the hedge. Thought I must have missed it and it got scared by the pellet and somersaulted before doing an Insane Bolt to the hedge!

Got myself in my usual sniper position and waited and a young rabbit came out and started to eat. 45 metres away, lined up on the bipod, aimed, fired, rabbit on it's side, couple of kicks and game over. No other rabbits are around so I walked over to pick it up. There not 10 feet away from rabbit number 2, in a rut is the body of a dead rabbit! I ambled over casually to inspect it to find a lovely pellet hole between it's eye and ear, it is still warm. It is the body of rabbit number 1!

There must have been one rabbit behind the other, I smack rabbit 1 in the head with an Ogive, rabbit 2 legs it back to burrow base! Rabbit 1 falls in rut and disappears from plain sight, leading person doing shooting to think that he has missed.

So another couple bite the dust and a mystery resolves itself.

No need to correct those who know what Mini Me is. A particularly fine example of the BSA Super 10 that has indeed been in the hands of the man who designed it!

The ground is exceptionally dry, the wheat fields (which are not being irrigated now for obvious reasons) are like lunar landscapes under all the wheat.
