KittleRox 2,147
having kept birds all my life I think I'm remembering why I gave British a side swerve, 1st round 3 youngsters fledged and doing well, second round two young died about 5/6 days reason unsure, 3rd round one youngster dead this morning, one remaining youngster fingers x,d, closer inspection seems like black spot, not willing to treat with drugs as it doesn't sit well with me, curbing my enthusiasm may be a good thing though as I was making all these elaborate plans for birdrooms/ aviaries etc which aren't going to do myself, the dugs, ferrets or the wife any favours, not got the time nor the money to be honest, not giving up entirely though, not too fussed about breeding but still making space for a fancy aviary in the garden to sit back and enjoy
fireman 11,093
Been thinking is it worth it myself this week as well Kittle mate, lost 5 goldie chicks due to a cat on the aviary roof and when i asked the cat owners to keep them in i got little responce so it's sort the cats myself and have the row but f**k em,5 goldies was worth £250 (if i had wanted to sell them)let alone messing up my and other peoples breeding plans for the next couple of years.Proper pissed off about it and if my bully hen leaves her nest i'll call round with my terriers and f**k them through his front door and see how they like their animals being tormented to death. But it'll pass and i've done quite well with coloured redpolls this year Kittle so if you want any silvers or cinny's or a greenie or 2 to respark your enthusiasm then just say the word mate .

Outlaw Pete 2,224
Even me. F**king pine martens have built up to saturation point here. Their shit's Everywhere! Result? I've barely ringed the tiniest fraction of what I'd expected to and have lost an entire, hard built, colony of starlings. Possibly for ever. Does it get me down? F**k Yeah!!! Will it break and stop me? Get To F**k!!! Chin up, KR. We forge on through, mate. Fireman; You're an absolute Gentleman! And I'm sure that free roaming cat will meet a fast moving vehicle or hop over a fence containing a Bulldog quite soon enough
KittleRox 2,147
Thanks Pete and fireman for the wee nudge and like I say I'm not giving them up completely, a nice wee aviary in the garden which I can sit back and enjoy will be starting to get built shortly, my original plans was to to have blocks of aviaries and the garage turned into a birdroom but feck that for now at least, what with a wife, grandson, dugs, ferrets, hillwalking, hopefully a new camera for my pics etc etc, who knows maybe in the future I may breed and expand but not now thanks again fireman you're a gent especialy considering the shxt you've been having, as you say " do well mate "
fireman 11,093
First things first mate and keeping birds has to be fun for sure and with everything else you have going on all you need is a few birds to enjoy and not worry about breeding and i'd say a few mules is what you need and on the note of "your not getting out of it that easy" i have a few goldie mules here for you once you've done your build
