Helston - Cornwall

Recommended Posts

Not been for a few years Jonah ,but the last couple of times we went there was Whippet/Lurcher racing on once a week at Mullion, right over the road from the Hoseasons caravan/Seagull pub(cracking pub grub, and not too pricey) The beach at the Minnack Theatre is stunning ,nice cove but watch the kids in the sea it drops off quite near in,was talking to a lifeguard as a riptide came in and knocked a BIG bloke off his feet  absolutely stuuning place mate ....enjoy

That's where I stayed at the hoseason caravans, roughly when I Was in my early twenties,so that's over 15 years,

I can still remember sid the seagull pmsl.

There is a bungalow at the bottom of helston where the old guy sells his own veg. its near the lake. There is also a farmers market down there in the hall but you would have to check for the dates it

I've not been since ten year ago,but mullions nice little place, think the cove is rated as a fishing spot.

Forgot to add if you are staying in Helston, looe bar is definitely worth a visit for fishing.

If its fishing your after ,particularly bass you could try Sennen, or failing that you could also try long rock beach its dog friendly as well.cross over at the level crossing park in the car park and fish around the rocks that are straight out in front of you. You will also have the advantage of digging your own bait there.the bass are only small but from time to time you will get lucky. Hope this helps.hazey

As been said some great beaches, traffic is always shite this time of year so get down west, Sennon, St.Ives, Zennor, Mousehole (pronounced mowsel if you don't want to sound a twat to the locals LOL), Cadgewith, Coverack, there are some real pretty coastal villages etc within half an hour or so of Helston

PS Watch the Spingo in the Blue Anchor, its lethal :icon_eek::laugh:

Cheers, D.

Its a beer mate, made at the pub near the bottom of the main street in Helston.
They do 3 sorts standard, strong, and extra. Think the regular starts off at about 5% abv :laugh::laugh:

Cheers, D.

PS I'm lucky, I didn't like it :boogy:

I've been very pissed In the Blue Anchor mate, we were working on culdrose for a couple of weeks and stayed in Helston ( could of probably traveled but that would ruin it)...

Was walking back to the B and B one night and bumped into a mate from Exeter he was running some club there ( can't remember the name) ended up upstairs for a lock in, very messy....

When I was there the off licence in Helston sold that Newquay steam beer, that was refreshing.

I don't think it's available now is it?

No mate, Redruth Brewery shut down several years ago.

Was bought by the Japs and they brewed a bit of stuff but didn't get the "pay excise/duty on what you brew, not what you sell"

Had many quality issues and folded. I worked there for a while selling the re-labelled shit that wasn't fit to drink :(

Did Steam Cider, Steam Pils, Steam Stout, Steam lager when it was Devenish.

Happy days, Steam Cider (8% abv) mixed with a bottle of Special brew, the natives used to get wasted big style LOL

Brewery been set on fire a few times lately. Its a listed building and the property developers that own it need a clear site :whistling:

Cheers, D.

I want to purchase a pair of boots for the colder weather, I do a lot of walking, and some trekking about the hillsides and trails. I do not want "winter boots" but rather boots that would be suitable for a cold day, but would work with layers of socks rather than thick heavy boots. Several people have told me Meindl is an excellent brand, and that is great, but what kind ? Hiking ? Walking ? Do they make them that they would serve the purpose mentioned above ? Any specifics to look for in a boot for this purpose ?
      Thank you in advance,
      Lynn

Sorry gentlemen to bother you, but I have come to my wits end. My neighbour across the way lets her dog roam as it please when it comes to shitting and urination, she is too lazy to actually take the dog out herself. He seems to have taken to my property and a certain area just under my bedroom window. I do not want to hurt the dog for the sake of her ignorance, but I do very much need to stop him from doing it any longer. The grass and  the shrubs are dying and turning brown and the flowers are just rank with smell that floats up through my bedroom window.
He is a VERY OVERWEIGHT beagle and leaves behind some damn good deposits.
I am wondering short of doing something stupid, what can I do to deter the dog from that area or any patches of garden I have? I plan to go to the council about the problem, and lay some of it on the town manager who is an acquaintance of mine, but in the meantime, any tricks out there to make my flowers and bushes unsavoury.
      Thank you in advance,
      Lynn

Saturday 27th an armed man attempted entry to a synagogue outside of San Diego, California. According to eyewitnesses he was armed with an "AR style assault rifle" and 3 people have been injured and one has been confirmed dead.
AR15's are illegal in California. The shooter was engaged by the synagogue's armed security which in this case was an off duty border patrol agent. The shooter fled the scene and gave himself up to LE.
The narrative of this story began as one of gun control but has quickly shifted to that of a hate crime now that more details have come to light. The article is from CNN but pretty factual with what's known at this time. The shooter has broken numerous laws and the bad guy with the gun was stopped by a good guy with a gun.
