Gaz made a good point it does come down to a good variety. But reading all on this post it seems that I was wrong and many do not just give tinned food. .I guess ive just bin unlucky in my search and had 8 out off 10 that do just feed crap on its own... That's like having a gun you hate the feel of just because you shoot ok with it? Personal preference Quote Link to post

GreyRake 108
Worker first, but i prefer light colours, just so they catch your eye more when working. I say that and here i am with a polecat and two dark silver mitts haha. Would also be good to have them all slightly different so its easy to see which ones poking its head out of what hole. Leeview 791
Ive said loads of times on these "cat food" threads before, I honestly believe that variety is key with anything. Yes in an ideal world, it would be whole carcass every day. Rabbit, Hare, Pigeon, Carrion etc. But we dont all have access to this 365 days a year. Tinned cat meat 7 days a week is obviously not the best grub a ferret can get, but once a week isnt gonna cause any harm. I dont even feed tinned cat meat because its cheap (because it isnt), i feed it because they love it. My kits always get a bowl of that cat milk you get from the supermarkets aswell a few times a week. They have a bowl of dry available at least 5 days a week if not every day. This is usually alpha ferret complete, but my dad works next to a farm wholesale place and always gets boxes of tinned kitekat stuff (cat biscuits) for 10p a box so this is often mixed in with the alpha. If ive run out of both? They get a handful of gain 28. They dont seem to mind and certainly dont look bad. Then they get whole carcass at least 3 days a week, rabbit, pigeon or hare usually. They get a few eggs once a week. They get tinned cat meat once or twice a week. If i have defrosted the dogs too many chicken carcasses or lamb necks then they get whatever is left. And they look great! To say " NEVER FEED CAT FOOD TO A FERRET" is madness. Its like saying "NEVER FEED PORK TO A DOG" which is one i got the other day. Yes as a sole food source it would be far from ideal. But in moderation, its all good. Just my take on it. Atb. Whole heartedly agree with variety when I feed my ferrets hares rabbits rats pigeons gamebirds in season all on the bone just as nature intended them to eat The harris hawk in your signature does that get flesh fed every day? or will that take dry food? cookiemonsterandmerlin 145
I have had working dogs ferts etc etc all my life I have yet to pick any animial due to his/her eye colour or coat . I like having white ferts for the same reason but I would never not enter a polecat because I might not see it . Truth is if your working a set on your own that so big you cant keep a eye on the whole of the set then is best to move on to one you can Each to there own but rather a good worker rather than a fert that I like the look off ] ATB Cookie Quote Link to post

Y.I.S Leeview It's not my harris hawk. It's a mates. It mainly eats toast and digestive biscuits out of season though. 1 Quote Link to post
