moxy 617
Most hard wood knots " seasoned " will be fine. The majority of woods used for stocks are very tight grain so won't open much. Plus any knots that would cause defects or concern would have been rejected by QC before your stock would have been made. If the knot in question has a split or any opening then I would be concerned as that's a direct opening for moisture. Likleyhood is that any suspect knots discovered during the manufacturing process will have been sealed and filled. And the sorounding wood well oiled for the Finnish. Hardwood tends not deform and in most instances won't deform as softwood. But a lot depends on the conditions the wood is subjected to. Worry ye not. And if your buying it brand fire you have 12 months to see. Quote Link to post
jandcguns 65
Thank you very much mate I'm glad to hear that and yes as you say it will have 12 moths warrenty and have you seen many other guns with wood knots ? Quote Link to post
moxy 617
In perfect honesty. No! I have seen the odd one or two made from burrs. As long as it looks tight. Has no splits and is finnished well. I really wouldn't worry. How big is this thing??! Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
My HW90's sixteen years old now and has two quite large knots on the bottom of it's forend that have never opened up or given problems. Like Moxy's said, don't worry too much and they can give the stock a distinctive look. Quote Link to post

mole trapper 1,693
There is a beautiful new regal in the gun room at Ivybridge at the mo with a very light coloured stock, it has a very distinctive burr/ knot that really sets it off. Even now I keep thinking should I have chosen that one. Quote Link to post
