redmoor 0
The more people that dont vaccinate the higher the chances that we will start to see Distemper and Parvo raise its head again..puppies generally dont survive these diseases, mainly adults equally struggle, death is painful and in some cases slow..i've seen dogs die from diseases that they should have been vaccinated against..i wouldnt recommend it. The veggie brigade think that 'vaccinating' pups with homeopathic sh1t will protect them..NONSENSE! Up until 8w of age pups have a high level of immunity from their mother. At 12w these pups are at risk. Quote Link to post
shaun v 3
get them injected, pups are only covered until they are 12 weeks thats if they are suckling there mother and she has had all the jabs Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Daz; Ye mate ~ or the older Dog ~ has just been lucky, mate. The Distemper and Parvo puppy shots are pretty well a foregone conclusion. Lepto shot's a farce and a scam. Once the pup's had its initial shots though, annual 'Boosters' of anything are a scam. If ye as seriously interested in all this and Dogs well being in general as I am, ye might take the considerable time to read, study and absorb this lot: Here. Quote Link to post
cúagusgiorraí 57
Get them vaccinated! My jack russell died of leptosporosis! poor thing caught while diggine a rat hole. Also parvo is horrible! Easy to treat. go to your local chemist which does veterinary, and tell him you have a working dog who needs the full whack! it costs me just 10 euro. Once a year is all they need. Quote Link to post
redmoor 0
Lepto is not a farce..we have seen several dogs who have had Lepto..and its no joke. We cant buy dog vaccines in the UK like you can in Ireland..lots of show people buy in vaccines from Southern Ireland to use on their dogs though. Edited August 24, 2007 by redmoor Quote Link to post
Guest MOLLY
I think what Ditchy means is the lepto inj only covers something like 7 of the lepto virals when there are dozens more it does not provide immunity to....he can tell you the stats better. I booster every 3yrs, dont bother with lepto as the dogs are in constant contact with rats so therefore should have their own natural immunity by now. MOLL. Quote Link to post
redmoor 0
Aah...sorry i thought he meant differently. How do you Booster without Lepto though..its the liquid that mixes with the Dhppi part? Edited August 24, 2007 by redmoor Quote Link to post
Guest MOLLY
How do you Booster without Lepto though..its the liquid that mixes with the Dhppi part? I dont really know .... Perhaps they were still seperate the last time they were injected? MOLL. Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
The constituants, indeed the Types of vaccine out there vary. (Live, Modified Live, Canary). The 'All in One' vaccines contain a Leptospirosis agent which is a false security. It's only 'working' for 3 months, then it dies. It also only covers the Dog for Two strains of Leptospirosis. There are in fact more like One Hundred and Two strains of this bacteria. Thus, as I stated; It's a farce. As regards the symptoms and how it feels to suffer Leptospirosis? Ye Dog can't tell ye quite what hell it is; I can. I contracted it, in it's most virulant form, when I was fifteen years old. It was not diagnosed untill I was half dead from it anyway. Thus it pretty well ran its whole course, ravaging my internal organs like wild fire. Let me assure ye: It's no f*cking picnic! Described by the medics as " A Walking Miracle ", having survived what should have been the final, fatal fever, when I hit 108F, I like to Think I may be entitled to say; " I've Been There. " Do I have my Dogs 'Boostered'? No. I've digested that PDF. The whole 'Lepto Scam' also having since been exposed in the magazine, " Dogs Today " (November 2006) the british vetenary body has now considered it's collective mortgage repayments and so they've now come up with the Bordatella (Kennel Cough) vaccination. And they'll tell ye anything that they get their hands on " Will need to be put on a drip. " FFS! Quote Link to post
Guest bitsa lurcher
get them injected, pups are only covered until they are 12 weeks thats if they are suckling there mother and she has had all the jabs my local vet told me a vacinated bitch will pass on vacine in her milk to her pups up to 8 weeks old , personaly speaking i've had parvo in my kennells last year , it killed 3 pups and my vets bill was just over £500 for treating 3 others , they were in the vets on a drip for 10 days and then one of them died ........ so conclusion is if you breed a litter take the lot to the vet at 6 weeks old and ask for a minor parvo jab it cost's £10 per pup and will cover the pup from parvo for 6 weeks , so now we know that the whole litter is vacinated we are safe enough to have people look/handle the little buggers , which ever one or two you decide to keep will need a full vacine , which can be done at 8 weeks for the first jab and 10 weeks for the second jab .... there we have it no PARVO ....if you chose not to take a leaf out of my book and take your chances then GOOD LUCK because if porvo comes IT KILLS ........ happy hunting Quote Link to post
doxhope 2
We jab ALL the pups we keep, but NEVER get boosters, and, never will Quote Link to post
redmoor 0
Molly..the liquid part of the vaccine is always Lepto..this is given yearly..it can be given on its own..the powdered part of the vaccine is the Dhppi - when it is given it is always mixed with the liquid (lepto) i'm not aware that a booster can be given without Lepto being a bpart of it. The problem with the Kennel Cough Vaccine is that is only protects the dogs against the worst strain of Kennel Cough - Bordatella - there are so many strains out there that its impossible to vaccinate against them all..the new KC vaccine in its current form now works within 3 days of administration and last for 1yr as opposed to the old one which only lasted 6m. Its very young pups and very old dogs that are most at risk from KC - it literally can and does kill them in a matter of days. I vaccinate my dogs as 8w old pups, then a full booster at 14m and then nothing else...i have had blood titres done on them all which shows that even for the oldest one at 10y old, she still is well protected from her primary and first yearly boosters.
