Outlaw Pete 2,224
Rob; Most people who are seriously into their ferrets keep quite a few. Thus they tend to breed a hell of a lot, each year. They'll often as not happily give away some kits to anyone genuine. The more money you're asked for a kit? The more likely it is that this is some arse hole who thinks ferrets should be fed on 'biscuits'. Live indoors. And that price is according to fur and eye colour. These are the people who'll talk of " Boys " and " Girls ". Walk away, Rob. Never look back! Find a Ferreter. He'll have shit loads of purse nets. His ferrets will be kept in clean, outside hutches, or maybe an aviary (known as a 'Court'). They'll be fed on dead creatures. The kits will Not so much as suck your fingers, let alone be " A bit nippy yet. But, they'll calm down ,,,,," (Oh no they f**king won't!). Accept Only kits. Anyone offering you a 'Good little worker', at this time of year, is trying to offload old and unwanted stock. Most of all though? Have your own quarters ready. Drinkers. Bedding. Secure as Alcatraz. Food in the freezer. Don't become another idiot on Yahoo Answers. 3 Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Find some one you know who has ferrets, buy some, and they'll show you how to go on, every one knows some one with ferrets, they're the 4th most kept animal in the UK Quote Link to post
onthehunt 40
Make sure you get more than one, cos they are social animals and get lonely quickly. Quote Link to post

Even if just play fighting its too rough as adults and leaves then with badly scabbed necks. I'm sure lads do keep them together but I think this is the exception rather than the norm. Get a couple of Jill's, just be prepared to take them out of season with Jill jab or vasec hob. Good luck. Quote Link to post

The one 8,495
I would say have a day out working with a local guy if you like the way the ferrets work ask if you could have a couple of kits as there social animals and shouldn't apart from the odd ferret be kept in solitary , but its the wrong time of year so you can pick up free kits from most places , Theres oblivious ones to avoid like theres a picture on gumtree of a litter of kits tucking in to a can of cat food and a bowl of milk , a descent breeder will be feeding them properly and be able to pick them out the hutch with out a pair of welding gloves , they should look like ferrets being 8 /12 weeks of age no like a wee mouse in my eyes they would be under five weeks and the cages should all be clean and the jill should be able to be seen and be in fine fettle Quote Link to post
Robie_n 10
Thanks lads some useful advice there, lol thought I'd have got more stick for asking! I don't know any one who keeps ferrets so but iv found a lad off hear who lives local and works them so hopefully they should be from decent stock. If hell sell me some ill go see how he's keeping them and make a hutch similar and see how he feeds them etc and just copy. Iv been watching videos and reading up about ferrets and ferreting for afew months now and really want to get into it thought lads off hear should be the best people to ask because iv seen what some of the yahoo divies have wrote lol Quote Link to post
