Gaz_1989 9,539
Beef and Lamb with plenty fat on it is Great for the hounds. Add small amounts of horse meat to that list and with quality biscut, veg, pasta, rice, supplementation in the right amounts and exercise they will be on fire. Basically how I feed mate. Always got a bag of biscuits in the garage. Gain 28 or Australian formula at the moment. But it lasts me a few months. Main food is raw meat and bone, brown rice, veg etc. Biscuits probably aren't needed but gives peace of mind and if all I've got out is 2lb of beef mince or horse mince then a handful of biscuits keeps the stool firm I find. mikeball 108
Few old wives tales on this topic Processed meat will never be as good for dogs as fresh meat Dog looks happy Gaz Are the pigs swill fed? they have the best taste Cheers pal. I will find out if they are swill fed. I imagine they probably are. It's some good tasting meat. I aren't an amazing chef by any means but I did 2 big shoulders from the last lot, in a roasting tray, scored the fat and rubbed salt in to help make crackling. 1 litre of scrumpy over the shoulders, 2 oranges halved, 2 apples halved, loads of garlic, half a jar of honey squeezed over the joints and a few pinches of various herbs. Cooked for an hour without foil, 3 hours with foil and then half an hour without. Served with roasted parsnips, roasted carrots and dauphinois potatoes. Invited a couple of friends around and they said it was the best meal they had ever had. It was out of this world. Now I'm hungry... Doing the same tomorrow... when you next cooking gaz?? I'm coming yours haha Quote Link to post

pritch 335
Isn't pig flesh too salty for dogs? I will ask her in the morning if she's been thirsty Haha Never given mine any pork as it supposedly has a high salt content. I'm sure there's been a few posts on here about it a lot of pork joints are pumped with brine, but if not it's fine Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
Bacon can kill a dog , pork is fine. Bacon won't kill a dog mate at all. Fed every day as its only food source? It's not gonna do it any good. But to say "bacon can kill a dog" where there are loads of newbies trying to learn is rediculous. Variety is the key with feeding. Mine gets a chicken chow mein or a bacon sarny regular and she doesn't look like she's dying... Your photo at the start of this thread shows a dog eating a large piece of raw pork. Give your dog a large lump of raw bacon and see what happens. There's a difference in feeding a dog on bacon and giving it the left overs of a Chinese or a bacon butty. Quote Link to post
