darbo 4,776
After T.Walsh:s breeding programme the end result would be 5/8 greyhound 2/8 collie 1/8 deerhound. to long a article to write out. 1 Quote Link to post

jeemes 4,484
does hancock breed and his customers test, the goog ones getting bred from? we are told when creating a strain or type its a numbers game, are his customers merely paying for the priveledge? has he not been ruthless, culling inferior stock not worth breeding from (i'm thinking about some of the proposed studs that were never used or used and found wanting) ? He farms dogs for money. Thats it. A mate went back to give him the run down of the way his dog had turned out, because Hanck had asked him to when he bought it. So two years later he made the journey to tell him,but when Hanck realised he hadnt come for another pup he quickly lost interest and left him standing there like a prick. If you have a good dog from him fair play to you. You could enter that dog into your own breeding programme, but hes only doing it for a living not for the love of it. 2 Quote Link to post

Sirius 1,391
Bird dog, the essential bit you are missing is producing a working dog for your own use! Now like I have said before good ol Mr Hancock is not producing dogs with this in mind in the slightest. So how about giving it a rest before it turns into one of those threads hey? Now like I have said before good ol Mr Hancock is not producing dogs with this in mind in the slightest. So how about giving it a rest before it turns into one of those threads hey? i only asked questions, but if i were wanting to produce a workfing dog for myself in theory i could use one of his crosses out of a line i liked thats been proven by lots of dogs and lots of folks over lots of years and cross it with say a platts deerhound x again produced over a long time. these breeders have sourced the initial pure breds, put in the work and effort for years, the customers have tried and tested them, in effect culling the inferior individuals leaving me or you or anyone the easy bit of picking which traits from which line we like and using them to suit our own needs, ive no axe to grind with anyone and not looking for an argument ......perhaps if i'd suggested crossing poachers pocket lines with heartbreak fell lines folks wouldn't get so irrational but like it or not these 4 kennels have used the principals raised by this thread Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
I think we all know we could do that short cut lol The thread was to hear about peoples experiences who have actually started from scratch. Edited August 9, 2013 by Sirius Quote Link to post
