Yeah,..several times during my life,..I have had an urge to do something along those lines..but,..it is a long road and is, in my opinion,..a young man's game...   The first thing to consider is,..w

I don't think new breeds should be deliberately created , they are usually money or vanity driven projects that tend to replicate , with slight variations , whats already there . Breed dogs that are g

Had a good chat this evening regarding this subject, its not the line or blood that's the hard work.its getting lads to stick to the "life plan"..

does hancock breed and his customers test, the goog ones getting bred from? we are told when creating a strain or type its a numbers game, are his customers merely paying for the priveledge? has he not been ruthless, culling inferior stock not worth breeding from (i'm thinking about some of the proposed studs that were never used or used and found wanting) ?

He farms dogs for money. Thats it. A mate went back to give him the run down of the way his dog had turned out, because Hanck had asked him to when he bought it. So two years later he made the journey to tell him,but when Hanck realised he hadnt come for another pup he quickly lost interest and left him standing there like a prick. If you have a good dog from him fair play to you. You could enter that dog into your own breeding programme, but hes only doing it for a living not for the love of it.

i'm not for or against hancock, what any man does is between him and his conscious and is his business, I only asked 3 questions based on subjects previously raised..........if yours mates dog has turned out good is he going to breed it? are your mate and i paying for the privilege of testing his dogs? did he 'lose interest' because he had already made up his mind on that particular stud line ? whether he does it for love or money is immaterial in this case as the principals of the breeding programme raised by the thread seem to have been utilised by him for decades, i could have used others as examples but as i have little or no experience of them i've used him.

Bird dog, the essential bit you are missing is producing a working dog for your own use! Now like I have said before good ol Mr Hancock is not producing dogs with this in mind in the slightest. So how about giving it a rest before it turns into one of those threads hey?

i only asked questions, but if i were wanting to produce a workfing dog for myself in theory i could use one of his crosses out of a line i liked thats been proven by lots of dogs and lots of folks over lots of years and cross it with say a platts deerhound x again produced over a long time. these breeders have sourced the initial pure breds, put in the work and effort for years, the customers have tried and tested them, in effect culling the inferior individuals leaving me or you or anyone the easy bit of picking which traits from which line we like and using them to suit our own needs, ive no axe to grind with anyone and not looking for an argument ......perhaps if i'd suggested crossing poachers pocket lines with heartbreak fell lines folks wouldn't get so irrational but like it or not these 4 kennels have used the principals raised by this thread
