Big bald beautiful 1,231
Wouldn't want to commit , its all hypothetical ...if both parents have the qualitys to bring to the table then why not.. Quote Link to post

DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
After seeing so much peddling and time wasters in this game with my own eyes and the effort and expense of breeding my own, I wouldn't be that keen on the idea.. I would much rather find a good bitch to breed to my dog with when the time is right and keep a pup back. And repeat, also when the time is right. With the intention of constantly improving "my line". I like the idea of thinking this 3 year old dog at my feet will be the great grand sire of my dogs in years to come. All worked hard and earned the right to produce the next generation. Quote Link to post
Chid 6,542
Greyhound bitch but only because I would hope the larger bitch would find giving birth easier.not other reason. the collie would probably find it the easiest out of the 2 for giving birth .... imo it wouldnt matter which way round the mating was , as it makes no difference to the pups Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
I dog that does its job is a good cross ? Breeding should be done for 2 reasons To replace ageing stock To improve the already good lines ....maybe other reasons but if they involve fame or money its a step backwards. 3 Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
For anyone who ain't read it, its all spelled out in Ted Walsh's Lurchers and Longdogs book. In that he's using collie and deerhound with greyhound blood but you could substitute those for whatever you wanted. The things he stresses most are, work 'em hard, cull hard, be honest with any weakness if my memory serves, as I don't have a copy. He also points out that it will take about 20 years or so many generations for the line to be breeding true to type.... Make of it what you will... Quote Link to post
