air gun ant 1,666
right lads as i said in a previos topic i got myself a landy defender. last week i was doing some green laneing with my brother when the bracket on the rear axle that holds the bottom of the damper snapped, now ive got a new bracket and tidyed up the weld site ready for welding on tonight by a mate. BUT i must of touched the brake line or the heat weakened it or something because on my way to work this morning it split and i lost all brakes!!! so after pulling over (lucky there was nobody in front) i had a look underneath and realised straight away what had happened i managed to limp to a garage near work and they will do it for me and i asked them to weld the bracket on while its on the ramps. the think is i no im very lucky no one was hurt, its just i was planning on going to lowther this weekend but if he comes back with a stupid big bill i wont beable to afford to go, is this sort of thing a big expensive job or not to bad? i asked for a rough price before but he said he doesnt no till he gets it on the ramps etc but basically he's got me by the short and curlys because i cant really drive it to other garages shopping around. just looking for a rough guide i just dont want him to take the piss. cheers lads ant
DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
A couple of inches of welding a new brake hose/pipe and bleed the brakes. An hours labour plus a new hose/pipe. £100?
foxtails 272
aslong as you roughly know what the problem was, find out off one of the lads on here or ring a couple of other garages for a rough quote so if they try and over price you, youl be able to let them know your not a numptie ,i needed a gear box and for someone to put it in, some people were quoting me 2-3 even 400 hunderd £s lol i ended getting the gear box for £100 and got it put in for £, when things go wrong with cars theyr in pain in the arse with time/money ect if youv got the number for the garage give them a ring ask them whats up
DanAdams 10
The same sort of thing happened to my dads landrover ages ago, he cant remember exactly how much he paid for a new brake hose, he said about 70- quid possibly a bit more. Then welding on the bracket, it shouldn't take to long to do, probably touching 100 quid. Like foxtails said give a few other garages a quick ring to see what sort of money they would charge. air gun ant 1,666
i was thinking £100ish myself, ive seen a full set of braided steel hoses in an old mag for £24 or something daft so it shouldnt be much for parts. cheers lads
