A zero-hour contract means there is no guarantee of any work from one week to the next, what we might call 'casual' labour, but people on zero-hour contracts can't register as unemployed,even though i

What about if the work is not there......do you think the company should still just pay?.......maybe even if it meant the firm may end up going skint and having to put a complete workforce out of jobs

We have people where i work on them!! only about 6 people most are at the end of there working life's but some are trying to rise a family with no guaranteed income as they cant claim anything while not working!! I love how people always blame EU regulations as some sort of millstone round employers necks!! i mean how bad is the EU making legislation to stop people dying and being exploited in the workplace giving people the rights to family life!!

 

Its a bit like the old days (you no when Britain was Great!! and kids went up chimneys) and there dad used to queue outside the factory and hope to get picked for a days work!!

 

I say this if you own a company that employs people on them i hope you go to the wall and end up with nothing!! so then you will no how it felt for the people you employed.

 

What about if the work is not there......do you think the company should still just pay?.......maybe even if it meant the firm may end up going skint and having to put a complete workforce out of jobs?

 

As with many with your type of mentality, you would rather see a firm go skint out of spite then use these type of contracts for the few in order to keep the firm in business and maybe protect the jobs of many.

 

I suspect that if it meant giving someone a zero hours contract or YOU being put out of work your morality would quickly disappear out the window.

 

When you return from your cerebral holiday in Utopia, maybe you will get some reality.

 

Just a thought, but if you feel that strongly about it I am sure you would be more than happy to split your hours with one of the 6 at your firm so they could have half your hours guaranteed ?................no, didn't think so ! Lol lol

I'm just about to swap from a salaried job with a company car to a zero hour contract.

Sick of where I am. Making cuts and redundancies left, right and centre.

 

Me and my missus both at same place so if they chopped us both we would be fecked.

 

My mate is trying to get me on the roads with him, good money and he's working 7 days of 10-14 hours at the moment. But zero hour contract.

 

The least he's had in 5 years is 3 days a week which I could still manage off.

 

But it's still a risk.

How wrong you are WILF, i used to work a 40 hour week and now do 37 this was done to save about 20 jobs! my morality will be where is as always been and no matter what i would not shit on fellow workers, was not brought up that way even to save my own neck!!

 

For me its all about sleeping strait on a night and if thats what you mean by utopia i can live with that.

 

just to make it easy for you to understand a zero hours contract!! is a contract of employment even though no hours are guaranteed!! so if you get no work for a while you still have a contract of employment, which means the individual cannot claim unemployment benefits as they are employed!! where is the morality in that???

I am almost positive even if your down as workin but don't pull x amount of money from the job then you'd be intitle to some sort of benefit :?

 

I was looking at going self employed and I went to citizen advice and they said I could earn up to 500 - 600 a month before it effected anything. But that change depending on everyone's circumstances.

 

I suppose its like a safety net so your not proper on your arse.

 

Another thing is if your on the sick or unable to work due to injury or what ever for over a curtain amount of time and not getting paid then I'm sure you can get help towards the likes of housing

Alot of folk had job and knock jobs ,I didnt see many complaining about gaining 10 hours in a week :whistling:

 

Still it right load of bollocks zero hours I bet all the contracts have MUG writtern on them

If the wording of the contract doesn't suit you and if you don't agree with any part of it but you still agree to it and sign, then yes, you're probably a mug. If it suits you then I don't see a problem.

your thinking of tax credits! statutory sick pay!! is paid by the employer which is highly unlikely to be in your contract of employment!! you can claim housing benefit if your on a low income anyway! but what if you own your home!!!!

I was on a 7:30hour p/w contract with Iceland, it seemed I only had the hours I got after Xmas because I was contracted to them. If they could get me a zero hour and I complied, I'd still have no work since

 

I'm not being funny, even on the pay I was on, not much more than min wage, it equalled what one week on the dole, let alone any other benefits.

 

It's a piss take, I say fvck capitalism!

When I was off sick with a broken leg I went and asked the DHSS for a loan of a bag of sand to help cover my rent while off. I had a job to go back to and savings to pay the most of my rent. I was off for 9 months and so realised I was going to be short. They told me I was up to date with everything tax, NI etc and how many thousands I had paid... Then she told me I was entitled to Sweet fa because I had a job to go back to. WTF I may have a job but what use is that if I don't have a fuckkin home!!! :blink: At this point I may of mentioned boot polish, banana boat, tribe, free house and free money in the same sentence :laugh: I was asked to leave the job center :laugh: escorted out by big two blokes and me with a bright pink cast on my leg :laugh: :laugh:

So were you asked to give up those hours or did you volunteer ?

 

And was that a yes, you will be asking the boss to give 18.5 of your hours to the zero hours contract people so they can have some guaranteed hours or you won't?
