100% Lamping Dog

Recommended Posts

I was talking to someone today, that said when he was really keen into lamping lamping, he use to only use his dogs for that purpose, no ferreting, not a lot of free running in day light, no mooching about just 100% lamping.

Did or does anyone still have an out an out lamping dog? If so do you think it makes alot of difference to working abilty?

Well,.if we are only talking rabbits,...it is uneconomical to keep lots of different dogs, for different tasks,...   Most dogs can put on a fair showing, at both daytime and after dark excursions,.

why would you keep a dog that may have the potential to be a great dog at many things and stifle that potential ?

it makes for a better walk if your dog can work up in the day and switch on in the night

99% of my lurcher work is lamping i do go for the odd days ferreting. anything my dog does in the day for me is a bonus not all that bothered about it. both my lamp dogs will mark warrens but they are very subtle about it.

im sure theres a few dogs that could'nt be seen during daylight hours purely down to the battle scars. . . from the bunnies obviously. :tongue2:

I prefer a companion and hunting partner who is full time and not one of these part timers. . . :D

depends how you look at it mate. a dog that took everything preban in the lamp is a all round lamp dog if thats you chosen way to work a lurcher.

To me a real Lurcher is a versatile dog, should give it all a go not just lamping.

To my dog every walk is a trip out hunting so you can't fail to do all sorts of hunting.
