Lurcher Info Needed

Hi folks im interested in getting a lurcher pup. But obviously haven't had a dog like this before and also the missus doesn't want it in the house so will have to be in a kennel. But I have a garage (joined on to house) which is only used for putting lawnmowers and tools in so would it be ok to house a kennel in?? Also how to go about training etc. So if anyone's got any pointers in the right direction that would be great many thanks in advance

Things I can think of are dog chewing your stuff and shitting everywhere and getting fresh air if you shut the door.

Not a good idea to put a dog inside a garage, even in a kennel. Dogs are sociable creatures, and need to interact with people and the world in general: it won't get much stimulation staring at four dark walls. Dogs also need light and air, sunlight for Vitamin D. IMO it would be cruel keeping a dog in a garage. You'd be much better off building it a kennel and run. There's loads of photos of different sorts of runs and kennels on here.

You could section a corner of the garage off and have a run attached to the garage?

 

Out of the elements in the garage and still got fresh air and sunlight in the run.

 

I assume you weren't talking about having the whole thing (kennel and run) in the garage?

That's what im hoping for Gaz_1989 for the missus to bond with it haha. Also the dog would only have to sleep in garage at night as would have run of the garden during the day, obviously wouldn't leave him/her locked in garage all day and night. If that was the case I wouldn't of even contemplated getting one.

I thought this would be the case. Dont think anyone would lock a dog in a garage all day. Lol.

 

If you can then personally I would knock a hole in the garage and put a 2m x 2m run on the side. This is what i was going to do last year. The dog can choose in or out then like a normal kennel and run system.

Then just build a box in the corner of the garage and either use plyboard or again the galv run panels to "section off" a corner of the garage, so that as people have said above the pup doesnt shit all over the garage and chew things you dont want it to chew etc.
