Kay 3,709
its a pity someone hasnt invented a sort of microchip thing that can be read of a handheld box same as the locator idea but an implant under the animals skin, so doing away with poxy collars altogether Quote Link to post
Guest JDF
any one with a mk 3 willing to give Chiefs suggestion a try,be interesting to see how it panned out over the coming season.i'm still using the mk 1 or i'd give it a go myself. Quote Link to post
richie 1
theres f*** all wrong with the leather collars, very strong and reliable. you start putting velcro on a collar it will only take a snag on a root or twig sticking under the ground to pull it off especially when a ferret cant move and starts struggling. end of the day me putting leather collars on a locator works for me so thats all im worrying about. just trying to give some advice which works. do what ever makes you feel happy. richie 1
butchered ? all that needs to be done is for the old straps to be slid out and a small amount plastic to be scraped away for the leather straps to be slid through... takes five minutes. Well when you buy one of these things surely you dont expect to have to modify it ? , no you shouldnt have to modify it, but when youre dealing with wankers like deben you have no choice. Kay 3,709
very good idear about the micro chip using your loaf is that I have already thought of a problem though , a ferret dies 1 example but i think if the idea could be manufactued by some company i dont see it being a major problem selling them, aslo the owners details could also be included in the chip so a combo of a tracking device & identity thing, good for terriers as well I am off now for a tia maria & coke i have done enough thinking for one week Quote Link to post

Well when you buy one of these things surely you dont expect to have to modify it ? , its brand new for gods sake not summat from a car boot theres f*** all wrong with the leather collars, very strong and reliable. you start putting velcro on a collar it will only take a snag on a root or twig sticking under the ground to pull it off especially when a ferret cant move and starts struggling. end of the day me putting leather collars on a locator works for me so thats all im worrying about. just trying to give some advice which works. do what ever makes you feel happy. If a collar gets caught on a root, then I would rather it came off with velcro than the ferret get tied up and strangle its self. Velcro is surprisingly strong. I might give it ago soon Quote Link to post
Guest JDF
I might give it ago soon keep us posted if you do Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
how would the ferrret die? i think its a brill idea if they can whack a tracker onto a shark and find it thousands of miles away then why not on a smaller scale with a ferret with a screen so you can use multiple ferrets at one time dam good idea Noo what i mean is you would need to have new ferrets chipped if your ferret dies but having said that if your 130 quid locator breaks you would have to buy a new one , so point taken Quote Link to post
Guest JDF
aslo the owners details could also be included in the chip so a combo of a tracking device & identity thing, good for terriers as well nice idea though i can see a few serious downsides to the terrier idea. Quote Link to post
Madcowz 0
The problem with this is the power issue. For the transmitter embedded under the skin to give off enough signal to be read from anything over a few inches it would need a decent sized battery, ans this would mean inserting a battery up yer ferrets bum (if we are keeping it all internal) your ferret is hardly likely to want to come back to you after that! /Mad Quote Link to post
reynardhunter 3
Richie, i looked everywhere for leather collars that will fit through the gap in the transmitter, where did you get those? thanks Quote Link to post
richie 1
i got them from deben, they come in packs of 5. just ask for the mk1 replacement collars. the only changes you have to do to the transmitter is to remove 1mm of plastic using a craft knife to scrape the plastic away fraction by fraction. takes a couple of minutes. richie Quote Link to post
