"digging Bitches"

I think dev touched on it --but how do you keep your line going if your not keeping and proving your bitchs --- as for big names why use them once you`ve got going and got yourself a proven dog and 2 proven bitchs the average terrierman should be set up for life -----the problems start when you have to start buying in do the leg work and set yourselfs up theres no short cuts in this game many have tried and failed if your in it for the long term --do your homework..

100% right Stig, what 'seems' to be the case in the terrier world is the lean toward dogs, as you said, because of 'names'. I see it more with younger lads getting into the game, its dogs only in the kennels.

I think lads who have been in the game longer know the value of a good bitch and rightly so.

You can have the best dog in the world but if your putting it to unproven bitches because thats all you got or can find, your a damn fool..!

the value of a good tested bitch comes when you yourself want a litter from it --simple ..

six or seven seasons before breeding . stuff and nonesence. a dog or bitch could walk at any time. if you dont trust your dog/bitch after a couple of seasons. will you ever? it all seems a little ove

Do they not all produce digging bitches? After all if the bitches arent digging surely the line would die out because the bitches would be/should be culled....

Didn't a lot of the old timers used to say breeding a steady badger dog to a hard fox bitch often produced good pups?

most failed proper bred digging dogs or bitches are hard on foxes, fox bullies I call them. this is just a v.poor excause for these old timers to breed from a animal that just is not good enough

The problem is that everybody's idea of tested or standards differ Dee.What I have might not suit the next man and visa-versa but I reckon a bitch should be no different to a dog work wise, there both bred to do a job.The biggest problem is lads breeding of low standard bitch's from decent dogs and hoping to get world beaters from the off spring, sometimes they will get 1-2 in the litter that make the grade but not consistently and a lot of the non-graders are sold on as pups only for them again when of age to be bred from and then the shite starts to spread.

It's unbelievable how many people use top quality dogs to sub standard bitches just because the dog there using is top quality doesnt mean that its going to compensate for the bitch being below par. And another thing a lot are doing is using an extremely hard dog for a stud that never gets used on a 30min+ dig. You would be surprised by the amount of these dogs that will quit when alls not going there way.
