Lamping Guide

Recommended Posts

Ey up all

So I've never really done any lamping but I'm thinking this year I'll get the bitch out a few times now I have permission nearer to home.

In terms of does and don't regards working the bitch on the lamp, I'd be appreciative of your thoughts.

Examples:

  • When you spot a rabbit in the beam that's our of range, do you approach with the beam fixed on the rabbit or do you turn the beam off and approach then back on again?
  • Do you leave the beam on and follow the rabbit when the dogs running it?

That's the type of thing I'm wondering about.

and nice+easy , maybe get close to the rabbit at 1st, once the dogs knows the crack, give longer slips, you will soon pick it up and the dog, just enjoy the night out+ dog

As above. I started by walking up to the rabbit with the dog on the lead and as soon as it went i slipped the dog. Now i just send him down the beam as he knows there will be something there

sometimes if you spot a rabbit long way out and you turn the beam off they can tend to run for home you can benefit from keeping the lamp on at times to hold them until you have walked right up on it,even if it does start to move off give the dog a bit of a hiss of encouragement to let them know somethings happening its easier for them to spot a moving target obviously

so ill tell you some the things i do while lamping

1 keep tight to the hedge so i place myself between the feeding rabbits and there warren

2 when i can i walk into the wind

3 if the dog misses the lamp goes of on till he is firmly in slip again

4 if the dog catches the lamp goes of till the dog retrives quarry and is firmly on slip

5 if im getting over fences or threw gates the lamp remains of i use my own eye sight

this is just some the things i do they work well for me
