porkycrook 466
I am not sure if two of my permissions have ganged up on me to send me made? When i went to one of my permissions a couple of weeks ago, i was sat there watching the three lanes for bunnies to pop their heads out. Then behind me i heard a latch on one of the gates being slid to open the gate (the gates back onto the allotments), i thought that "well that's ruined todays sport". So i removed the magazine from my gun and made it safe so i could talk to the old couple. I was brought up by my mother who installed some good manners all those years ago. So i stood up and removed my hat, face veil and gloves to greet the lady & gentleman. This husband and wife are the couple who has given permission to shoot the rabbits. So we then went on passing stories between the three of us. It was then that i nearly choked, the lady said that she had come out of her garden to tend their allotments and saw a small rabbit "climbing the wire mesh" that they have around their allotments. The husband pipes up that he had dug the wire fence into the earth so the couldn't dig under it. I had to stop myself from either choking or laughing out loud but i could see that they were both serious about it. Now i had never heard of such a thing and when another allotment owner came past, again i stopped what i was doing for a chat. We chatted about things one of them was his allotment and the fact that his was the one closest to the warren. I brought up the matter of climbing the mest fence, he smiled and said "you have met her then". I said that i had never heard of that before and he said the same and laughed. When at another one of my permissions and chatting about this and that, when out of the blue he said that on one of his drives around the permission. He does this at least once a day, checking to make sure the "f***ing diddies" his words not mine he had seen a rabbit in a tree. Well you could of knocked me down with a rifle butt, i just had to laugh. Both one of his workers and i were laughing along with him, but he kept saying "it's true i did see it" and "i knew you b*****ds would laugh at me when i told you". Well there was Bill, Jim and I all laughing about these mountaineering rabbits and we will soon seeing that on the news "a rabbit has climbed Mt Everest". I thought i should then say about my other mountaineering bunny but thought i had better to keep that to myself just incase they called for the men with a straight jacket and lock me away. So my question is, do rabbits climb has anybody seen it or know they do? Thanks for your time. 2 Quote Link to post

ghillies 209
yup... me and a mate looking over a brook onto a rough patch of ground, i see a rabbit sat about 15 feet up (from the brook) a tree, laying there on its back, legs sprawled and think, hmmm must be a biird of prey or something, so i say 'seen that rabbit there?' he sais no.. i say about 15 yard, up on that branch, should i shoot it?' he looks..looks and sais ermmmm 15 its gotta be over 50 cuz i cant see anything so, i'm looking at it through the scope and blow me if it lifts its head to look at me! feet to me head furthest away..wack goes the pellet and thing drops straight in the brook.. so we stood there a while looking at it, looking at each other lolol.. we didnt say aything much past..rabbit up a tree?..yup?.... since then i found out theres even a type of rabbit in the states that 'nests' up tree's, and seen a few doing the old climb a steep rubbish heap or what ever, turns out theyre good climbers,i'd say better than badgers.(who also climb...) Mister Gain 1,764
I was stealthily making my way alongside the blackthorn hedge on the orchard permission earlier in the year, taking it really slow and almost sh*t myself when a rabbit jumped out about head height not 4-5 ft from me, and belted away and into a burrow. I couldn't believe it. When I got back to the car I told my shooting pal, I waited for the p1ss taking but he confirmed it. He said he's seen it a few times and told me to have a look at the tops of the lower branches of the fruit trees, which I did, and quite a few had been nibbled away. Bear in mind there's no woodland and you rarely see any squirrels. So not only do they ring-bark the fruit trees, they gnaw higher up as well. Quote Link to post
