Does anybody know of the artist vernon ward, the painting looks old , it depicts ducks flying over a river with marshy ground on the left hand side..

Thats it mate,, thats the painting..vernon ward signed on the right hand side..So dirty, the frame is white..

Stig how would i clean it, the painting has been in a very old house, uncles house, looks like soot stain, should i leave it well alone..

 

leave it mate --- I`ve done a few with white sprit and cotton wool and cotton buds its a balls ache takes hours ---try a small area -- could of been on a chimney breast over a coal fire --just try dusting it with a new paint brush --its not under glass ?

still in the old house stig,, family said i could take an item from the house ,, so much stuff, i just noticed this painting because of the theme of it, But if it was of any value i wouldnt take it,, wouldnt feel right..

I was thinking about that a while ago. Pesonally I think it is swings and roundabouts. Firstly it show that things are not as rare as previously thought, you can also find the provenance of an item PDQ, The upside is bigger audience for your sales.

bad everyone can find out the value in minutes -- even ebays a price guide ---i got a call to buy some bits from a house some nice bits i bid fair money but she was on the i phone pricing it all up at the top end i came away with a Victorian bow top trunk out of 30 odd items i bid her on -- paying out cash in hand you expect a fair return -- i put a lot of time into it i sometimes have upto 80 bids on gear on ebay to win 3-4 bits .. auction prices are up commission and vat and then your fuel costs its hard work ..
