Giro 2,648 Posted August 5, 2013 Report Share Posted August 5, 2013 Yeah Thing about keeping working dogs in the house is, you have to work them or exercise them so, when they are in the house they are relaxing & resting.. Just like any dog they need a outlet and stimulation.. Just got to watch if you have a few, you dont want kick offs if your not about.. I have kept dogs in the house and crate them up when I am out.. Would not leave them to long tho if they need the toilet.. Its personal choice at the end of the day mate.. All my dogs start off in the house then move out to the kennels.. But I dont mind a dog on the sofa if they aint wreching the spot and pissing and shitting... My dogs are all house trained from a young age and seem to be cleaner in the kennels.. 2 Quote Link to post

He is spoilt by the other half and sleeps in the hallway at night outside the bedroom. To me than goes further than food and a warm bed.. Bit of comfort and TLC aint going to make a dog quit.. Company, its all a good bond.. Some folk will say otherwise... But I have had sofa lounging lurchers than fill the bag and run till they have nothing left.. My Patterdale is in the house with me and my other dogs, we get a few dog thefts around here so I would never entertain leaving him in a kennel. I don't think it has affected his work, he is still just as mean when he is out, like Giro said, make sure he gets plenty of work/exercise before you bring him back in the house and he will be fine. I got mine some squeaky toys because I thought he might be bored sleeping in his bed all day, (I took the door off a cupboard in the back room for him) but they lasted about 3 seconds before they were in tatters and he just went back to sleep! Never kept a working dog inside before but I cant imagine him being petted so much will ruin any working ability? was thinking the same mate have a Lakeland bitch shes a great little dog and that was my thinking as well pet her to much and I would make her soft but she seems to enjoy herself shes a good ratter hoping to work her soon the advice you got has answered my thoughts as well good bunch on here they give good advice ... There are some mixed opinions and I can understand each point of view. Im afraid I have no option other than to mix the terrier with family and the kids have grown quite attached to him.
