snoopdog 1,256
Everybody does it at different ages.i have mine in the house until around 4months old. So I can house train them.and socialise it.i like mine house trained for various reasons but The main reason is if it gets a bad injury. I can keep an eye on it. And treat it accordingly. People say if you do that they howl in the kennel. Not if you introduce them properly they dont. I also think you get a stronger bond with the pup.which all helps will training later on. Just my humble opinion. Seems to work for me. . 3 Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
If I have two pups of very similar ages they will be kennelled at night and when I'm out to begin with, but I wouldn't like to kennel a solitary pup very early on, and if that is the case I have it inside, crated when I'm not about. It will get fed in a kennel, so it sees that place as somewhere nice to be, and will also spend short periods of time in there when chewing a bone for example. Not had a problem then kennelling at a later date if needs be: bitches in season are kennelled so it makes sense to accustom them to kennel life at the same time as being in a house. I like my dogs to settle wherever I put them. Two pups together are company for each other in a kennel, but by the time they are around 4-5 months old they are inside most of the time. We have a dog flap, and I find that kennel reared pups house train very quickly indeed as they have always peed and crapped outside in their run or the garden from when they are tiny, so coming into the house, the 'big dogs'' den, is something to be respected. That's always worked for me at any rate. 2 Quote Link to post
DazAllison1 556
Always kennelled them straight away, but in the summer months the kennell door and house door is always open but they never seem to venture inside Quote Link to post
