Craig83 52
Is there no licencincing issues? Quote Link to post
RiverRomper 15
Firearms laws in the 'States are specific to each individual State. The main limitation to a .303 Wolverine in the State of Missouri is age. (have to be 16 years old to purchase). Three miles down the interstate, on the other side of the Mississippi in the People's Republic of Illinois, You need a FOID.(Firearm Owner's I.D.) Some States it is legal to hunt with an air rifle, other states might be more restrictive. If you have a screw-off moderator, leave it back in the UK. Removable silencers are VERBOTEN by Federal statute. Ten yrs. prison and $10,000 fine. Peace, hope this helps, RiverRomper Quote Link to post
Craig83 52
So to clarify. I can book my rifle on to the flight, as long as I speak to the airline. And there is no ramifications from licencincing this end? Quote Link to post
Craig83 52
I'm going to California by the way Quote Link to post

Hi Craig And most airlines will now charge you £50 each way for carrying it for security costs + charge you for carrying an extra case British Airways works out at £180 for a return trip. What do you plan on shooting out there as it is illegal to hunt large game with an air rifle in California so hogs and deer would be off limits. Craig83 52
That's strange, there is a professional outfit doing hog hunting trips. Details given to me by air guns of Arizona Quote Link to post
Alsone 789
Don't know how current this is but no mention of air rifles here under permitted weapons only centrefire rifles http://www.jesseshunting.com/california-hog-hunting-info-guides-links It also sounds expensive $67 per pig tag (bought in advance and non refundable) + need a $151 hunting licence. Craig83 52
I'm not paying that much. When I get to my laptop ill post the link Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Is the trip specifically for hunting with an air rifle? If so, would the company perhaps be able to loan you one whilst you're there? No shortage of firearms in the States afterall. There are likely to be Federal charges to bringing a firearm into the country through customs. It can be done only with proof of a pre-arragned hunting trip and hunting license. Quote Link to post
Craig83 52
Yeah I want to use the wolverine, I get to use it in the UK but the Americans are wild about big bore air guns so I fancied going out there for a play Quote Link to post
andyf 144
Firearms Abroad, oh dear. The problem starts getting an airline that will take firearms. If your going Boar hunting in Europe, or Big Game in Africa it's not to bad as that is a 'well trodden path', get a European Firearms pass from your regional Firearms dept. (its an extension to your current FAC) then start looking, virtual no budget airline will touch guns with a bargepole, remember you can't take a hatpin on a plane let alone a gun. Only mainstream big name airlines will help you. I've been hunting in the states a few times, and its just to much hassle to take your own guns, either use the 'estate' rifle or as I have done buy one when there (get the hunting provider to buy it for you), take your own scope the sell it back to the gunshop before you leave, that way you get a new rifle in the calibre you prefer (the loss on the rifle is bearable). In Europe it's easier to drive a car and forget flying, best way is to go as a group to France then rent a big diesel estate 'left hand drive' with French plates and take turns at the wheel. M47KS_M4N_CH71S 50
Hi craig as recently i have just done this, this is what i found out: Most big airlines will take firearms if air rifles u will need to empty the air cylinder and check it as normal baggage, u will just have to take it to over size baggage, they will charge u for 1 gun case the same as and extra peice of luggage so forth, U will have to ring the airline and let them know around 2-3 weeks before your flight. There should be no Inspection in the uk if there is they use a machine bit like and xray, This was with BA Now on the other side customs can do what they want believe me!! if there on a power trip then they will do as much as they can to piss u around, they took all 4 of mine for inspection took 2 days, there reason was to make sure there where what i had said there where, witch i dont know why it took 2 days as any one with a brain cell knows what an air rifle looks like but hey they do what they want. so if i was you i would book a couple of free days before your hunt;-) Atvb pal Chris Quote Link to post
