stopemhopping 1
we got 2 sandy jill kits yesterday theyre quite nippy as the wife found out today i tend to favour the finger and thumb round the neck and the rest of the hand behind the front legs and under the belly technique when handling nippy kits that way they cant get their head turned round to get their teeth in. hope this helps.. tiger82 43
OK yes funny you should say that I always pick the hob up first 90% of the time his ok,the jill bites me all the time, but I will just have to put up with it and see if she gets to like me,every time I go down to the court I think here we go bet that little bitch jill is going to bite the shyt out of me again I will just have to work with them until they get used to me thanks again I find some ferrets in a hutch are better than in a court in a court they have a free run and they take advantage of that because when you do pick them up they just want to go down and run free. Same as in the field some just don't want to be picked up. try her in a hutch for a few days and it might settle a little bit. If you give them a big run like a garden for example they always struggle to be back down when you pick them up mine do and my eu x has his legs going everywhere. dunkers87 5
Put something liquid in the palm of your hand and let the ferret lick it off your hand.I can remember my dad and me uncle used to spit in there hand every time they handled a nasty ferret . Im going to give it a go and see what happens Quote Link to post
stopemhopping 1
letting them eat or drink out your hand is good ive always let them lick spit out the palm of my hand i know it sounds minging but they like it and it teaches them that hands are good and theres no need to attack them. just handle them loads and loads and then a bit more its all worth it it the end it just takes patience. coneyman999 17
Tiger 82 is 100% right, a ferret that can't be handled should never be allowed to run free in a court, hutch only then pick them up regularly, spit or milk in the palm is good. All else fails use a bitter lemon or bitter lime spray on your hands before you pick em up, one taste of that stuff usually puts em off biting. All mine are handled every day and every now and again you get a spiteful btard and the spray works well, but only put it on your hands and let it dry, don't spray it at them. Don't hold em round the neck to stop em biting, it achieves nothing, you gotta let em bite until they realise its a bad idea. Quote Link to post
The one 8,487
Why would you spray your hands or wear gloves , i don't in the field and my hands in and out burrows more than a virgins nighty up and down on her wedding night . If the breeders no done the hard graft you have to soak it up and take it, there only kits no alligators , Spend some serious time handling them and after a fortnight all the hard graft should be done or are you going to stick your hand in a dead end with this ferret when it has a full set of proper teeth 1 Quote Link to post
GreyRake 108
The kit I have at the moment isn't too bad, she knows by the tone of my voice when I say NO she's doing something wrong and stops. My jill kit from last year was a nightmare, she had a terrible temper on her, hissing and biting hard. I have them out in the living room everyday and if she bit me id say no then put her into the cat carrier for 3-5 minutes, like a sort of jail. Then take her out and handle her a little, if she bit again she would go straight back in for another 3-5. She soon learnt biting me meant she missed out on her playtimes. Quote Link to post

GreyRake 108
Just get some olive oil haha, but letting them lick from your fingers/hands can help. Quote Link to post
