Question for you guys, is it only dog foxes that kill for killing sake where as vixens kill for survival?

they all kill far more than they can possibly eat, they go into a frenzy when they get into a hen or pheasant run and kill the lot that they get theyre teeth into, same as killing young lambs they kill them and leave them in the field. some food they bury to return in leaner times, they both kill for survival and in frenzy mode that's why theyre a pest, badgers also prey on hens, pheasents and lambs too aswell as everything else. nature needs balance to work in harmony and when lower predators are let loose with protection from the law that's what upsets the balance and everything lower in the food chain suffers as a result. and they also spread disease that can species jump. so it all upsets the balance. usually an apex predator like the wolf keeps the numbers in check and stops them from over populating but as theres no wolves doing that in gb that's where man and dogs step in to help control numbers.

Humans upset the balance with laws, they interfered with something thats been going on for centuries. Weather hunting was done for survival, pest control or sport it's been going on for ever. If people in the cities didn't like hunting then that's upto them you will find most country folk understand hunting because they see the effents it has but a lot of people in cities only hear about it in the press and read bad things that make the news stereotyping us. We should never have interfered with the countryside part of it. What people don't realise is hunting helps fox populations we don't kill every fox just a small percentage but we kill a lot of old, sick and dieng foxes first stop the spread of disease and paracites maybe a few young inexperienced ones too. But by stopping hunting we altered the genetic make up in foxes.Foxes chose the countryside because it was safe, few of there main predators HUMANS and a good food source.Fear of humans was bred into them because of hunting but now over the years they have started to live nearer to us started being fed by people and scavenge from us so now they are born and tought humans are I food source. This is why there are more common urban foxes and fox attacks. We caused all this our selves and until hunting is made legal again it will only get worse

I have never noticed a difference over here in Australia 'Vixen 'Dog they are both as bad as each other. It's lambing season at the moment and the foxes have been causing havoc with every sheep farmer costing them big money. A local property owner and good mate of mine lost 19 chickens in 1 night all were killed by a single fox and not one was taken out of the hen house and fed on by the fox. A few nights later we trapped the fox and it was a mature vixen.

I have been told that mature dog fox will have a go at the dogs (Small Terriers) and put up a bit more of a fight compared to a mature vixen. I suppose it makes sense been a bigger fox.
