Bosun11 537
If it did what I wanted, then of course.... When I was about 15 I went to my first show in Wigan. Being a city kid from the middle of a big city I was gobsmacked that there were so many lurchers on the planet, never mind one place. I remember standing ringside, next to a bloke with a big brindle deerhound/collie type cur. Looked mean, both of 'em but that dog was smart as feck to me... So, I couldn't help myself and I asked... "Nice dog mate, what do you do with it?" I think I was expecting a full book of explanation, coursing, lamping, ferreting, nets field, fen & scrub, all carried back to hand etc... All like as like when a dog is advertised in my fav read at that time, Exchange & Mart and that book by Ted Walsh. He turned an looked at me, meaner than ever and said.. "It kills foxes..." and walked away... Any explanation of lurchers ain't ever got any better for me... We know how versatile they can be but I remember that dogs face, mean as hell... Don't knock the one trick pony...! Quote Link to post

Don't knock the one trick pony...! funny you should say that about the fox dog Bosun because this is what put this topic in my head. One the so called top coursing boys fired an alround challenge out to a lad who has no interest in coursing. but his dogs well able to scare a couple but when it comes to foxs any time the day and in any situation he does his job. Plus ferreting marks holes lifts bolters. lamps 3 times a week an has been known to put a steak or two on the table...better dog i would say than a point an slip yo yo Quote Link to post
