Giro 2,648
Its all variables... In some spots on a wild night and green rabbits never seen a lamp they can be sitting ducks with a good dog.. Best I got was 16 out of one field . I hardly moved . The dog was like a yoyo and got a fair few off the seat.. Then on other bits I can hit the light and cause a stamped and would be lucky to get one or two.. NEWKID 27,152
Daytime when there's lots of rabbits like that can be a nightmare, the dog doesn't commit to one, at night it a different story altogether you send the dog to the one you pick... Same as you Sirius, lucky to catch them in the day round here... Unless there bolted... Cheers You can even have too many at night . . . . Been asked to ferret through a place in the past, so that the lad could lamp it better. . . . . Agree mate, there's some playing fields near here that move with them but you'll struggle to catch one they move like a wave... Then again there's a little horse paddock I do on the way home some nights, always stacked its tiny and I've had 4 out of it in 5 mins, they just don't move... I just tend to find if they're sat out in the day they all move... Quote Link to post
Dan McDonough 560
Those are some great pics. That's about how I'm doing, minus the ferrets. I can catch about one every three days and it's tough going though I'm watching my whippet Mikey get smarter and smarter about where he's putting himself in the race. At first he would swing out on a rabbit laying up near the edge of the woods. Now he's starting to try and blast himself inbetween the rabbit and the woods in order to keep him in the open. The more he does this the more I think he's going to catch. He sure is trying hard. He's not as fast as my younger dog but he corners better and will pound the brush and as I mentioned before, he will run a track. That tracking doesn't help him much when we're running around home in the woods and openings but when we're in the same kind of country as what's in your pictures, that nose is really great. Mikey's a good locator. Thanks, Dan Quote Link to post

jamesmc 582
Sorry mate never realised your in USA Depends on the land/fields your working.. Over here I personally don't catch many daytime rabbits unless its in rough ground - seed beds - fell ground.. Rabbits have to be there to be caught .. Most spots I go, they don't sit far from home.. If I never used lamps and ferrets. I would come home with the odd one & likely blank most days I get them sat out in stuff like this.... They have to hit the open and are often far from a set.. Some times I think they live on top and in the walls as I don't see many sets.. But for daytime rabbits its ferrets for me A flush on the fells Rabbits in that scrum and my dogs paw is in that numpties mouth 4TH PIC DOWN IS A CRACKER MATE... 1 Quote Link to post
