Lamping last night

Recommended Posts

Out lamping last night with fieldmarshall and a mate was canny windy when we set off but had dropped right off when we got down the dales not that many rabbits out when we started to lamp but we still were getting runs .It was the first look out for my old black & white dog spike he was over keen and over shooting rabbits when he got a run but once he settled down he started to catch a few as did Fieldmarshalls dog and his mates .It was my turn to slip so i let spike off on a rabbit that was about 50yd off he got on to it and was running it along a fence line he was up its arse and i thought he's got this then his back legs went up in the air as he hit a tree stump he picked him self up and tried to get back onto the rabbit it went through the fence into the cover when he pulled up i could see he had took a bad knock and was finding it hard to walk that was the end of the night i picked him up in my arms and we made our way back to the motor after a few fields i put him down to see if could walk he was a bit wobbly but started to walk better. When we got back to the motor i gave him a drink and lifted him into the back got home and gave him a rub down he was a bit stiff this morning but seems ok and was enjoying a lie out in the sun i will leave him off till i know he is properly better he is 8yrs now so time to give the younger dogs a go.

The ground was good to run duckwing its all pasture fields and our feet were soaking wet off the dew on the grass its the standing nettles thats the danger they are hiding obstacles from the dogs think thats why Tomo's bitch hit the wall last week .Know what you are saying about hard ground its not worth risking the dog getting injured

all the best Nobby
