birddog 1,354
well done bud always good when a young un comes good on the subject of nails....my two walk totally differently to each other, ones powerful and deliberate and tends to keep her own nails in check the other kinda floats she's got big strong feet but her nails get trimmed weekly this helps keep the quick up a bit........if yours is as canny and trusting as she looks, you'll get a lot of stick for it from your mates as i do but why not try a dremel on her nails, i find more control than just clippers once they're used to the noise and a treat when your done they accept it fine Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
I know i'm on about nail's again but if i have to cut any and i'm unsure with the darker nail's the torch comes out..it 's a bit like candling a egg to see what's inside..if you shine the torch side on the the nail the quick is a lot more visible.. 2 Quote Link to post

Bosun11 537
You read threds like this regarding a dogs nails and how important it is to keep em short and the easiest way to get dogs not to mind is to maul about with nails and clippers on the toes when they are pups, no need to cut as such, just 'nibble on the pointy bit and play holding the foot etc. Pup don't mind as long as your stroking and being gentle. Later on, as adults, no probs. No different than children at the barbers or hairdressers, whilst your gettin cut, stick 'em in the chair and pretend to do it type thing.... Just with regard to dogs not liking nails getting done, an old greyhound boy once told me a soldering iron works too, burning the nail back. You'll soon know when your getting short enough, as the quick feels the heat and they move there foot. I've never tried it and the smell would be bad enough... Anyone..? Quote Link to post
