Gnasher, I think Mirs opponent Hardonk is a Gracie BJJ student, Rickson I think :hmm: I think he is also a kickboxer although Jay may know more. I must admit I'm not that impressed with Mir, he was pummeled by Freeman, Broke Sylvias arm although I think he would have struggled and looked to gas very early in his fights with Wes Sims. He looked awful against Brandon Vera and was finished very quickly. I think he has only gone three rounds once, the majority of his fights are over win or lose in the first

Anyway, what of Lesner

Just read your reply Gnasher, he is freakishly strong and I beleive he was a state wrestling champ, hes around 6'3' and over 275lb so hes a big lad. Have alook at his first MMA fight on my earlier post, not sure if he is a Gracie student....

surely if he is 275 wrestling he will prob only be around 230 conditioned for mma will he not,i know them wrestlers are juiced up to the eyeballs

as for mir.....id have to disagree i think he,s a class act and a very rare type of fighter,a man that size 18 odd stone with the speed on the ground and of course the strength of a 18 stone guy....but yes he seemed to have a cardio problem, freeman beat him when mir had very little experience(21 i believe ?).....i might be wrong but i think he was a real talent yet had a lot of holes in his game but still made world champ,a good sign in one so young !

Gnasher, I remember Mir being the UFC "poster boy" for a while and touted as the new breed of fighter. He is quick on the floor for a heavyweight, look how quickley he submitted Tank Abbott. I'm just not convinced he is as good as Couture/Arlovski etc etc, I think his cardio has been terrible and as you mwentioned earlier, i'm not sure he has the heart when taking a real pounding. The Cote vs Grove fight could de surprising but I think Grove will win. Good luck to your friend Hinksy and best of British on your next bout Jay.....Wheres that you tube footage?

Heres another top quality fighter, Matt Hughes, IMO one of the most dominant fighters to ever fight in his weight class. He has 41 wins and 5 losses, he has wins over tough opponents such as Trigg, Lytle, Sherk, Penn, Newton, St Pierre, Gracie and countless other fighters. There are fighters out there with better stand-up and submissions but the guy is freakishly strong, has superb wrestling skills and that "heart" needed to win.

Hi Guys,..

Just back from training...my mate from American Top Team came up today to help my take-down defense...the guy im fighting on the 31st is a hellish wrestler, but his hands 'aint great...so it will be my normal game plan...try and take his head off!..lol.

Frank Mir is a VERY nice guy...i trained with him and some of his guys when i lived in Vegas, for around 2 months...a VERY talented guy, and incredibly fast for his size...his performances of late have been horrible to say the least, to be honest, he hasnt been the same since his terrible accident that nearly killed him (motorbike)...a nicer guy would be hard to meet though...i wish Mir all the luck for the future.

Brock Lesnar is a VERY strong dude...but a talented, smaller guy (Fedor) would demolish him,...but then again, who would Fedor NOT beat?..lol...i look forward to seeing Lesnar fight a Name in the sport...he has been calling out Tim "Nice but dim" Sylvia,...needless to say, i think that Brock would have an easy job with that!..lol...there are still plenty of rumours going around about Kurt Angel doing some MMA...that would be interesting!...

I hate all that name dropping :D ..but suffice to say...yes,frank mir is a nice man,a very nice man,a very very nice man :D ....he can certainly tell a story and sounds like he told a good one about the "near death " bike accident......he shattered the femur in his leg yes,but near death no.

As you may know he was born with a big silver spoon in his mouth and only started wrestling when he ran out of boys toys for mummy and daddy to buy.....my only real doubt with him is his hunger and desire to reach the top of the sport, but i guess he has shown some just simply by getting back competing after a career threatening injury.

I really hope not too many of these pretty boy wrestlers get into mma...the top level of the sport is already getting too " showy" without them adding to it....ken shamrock did wwf for 3 years was it ? and he came back talking like king kong on steroids!

lol@Gnasher...as you say mate Frank IS a very nice man, but saying he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth is a little far fetched...i would have said it was more like a Silver JCB bucket head or summat a little bigger than a spoon...lol...always real helpful, but as a coach, didnt realy seem to WANT to teach...was more there to hang out and been seen...that was my impression...but i guess why should he bother with a bunch of people that only went there to get there picture taken with him!..lol...that accident did f**k his leg up failrly though mate, if the scares are anything to go buy...looked terrible...to be honest though, as you have said, i dont think he HAS to fight, hence why his heart is a little "Marshmellow-ish"..lol.

I dont want MMA to get all f****d up with big name wrestlers joining the ranks, unless of course they have a genuine love for the game...but people like Bob Sapp (ok, not a wrestler, but a complete TWAT non-the-less!) are hardly poster boys for the MMA game eh?

I think what makes frank a nice guy is that he was a nice guy before he had big success in this sport and success hasnt changed him one bit.....his lifelong trainer is a good man also, quiet, knowledgable and unassuming but i certainly wouldnt want him as an enemy !

Personally i prefer the game here in england, not on the same level quality wise of course and not as big of a sport but the whole hype and bullshit is not so far fetched here kye i dont know whether you agree, which for me a lot of it comes from the showbiz acting total ridiculous nonsense of the wrestling which we dont have over here.....that said i suppose its about getting bums on seats which i believe at real top level doesnt need to be done,couture/liddell etc etc...they dont act daft because their fights sell itself they dont need hyping.

I agree Gnasher,...i dont know if you guys heard/saw alot of the hype before the Penn Vs Pulver fight, but there was footage of them out drinking togther before the fight, and Jens said he was going to Hilo to train with BJ etc etc after the fight...i just dont know why people have to take a fight personaly?...at my level, i think most lads do it because they want to sound hard, impress girls/mates and all that shit...when me and a mate got interviewed on the radio, the lass asked me "Any words to the next guy your fighting?"...i just said "Im sorry"..lol...afterwards she said that was the scrayiest thing she ever heard anyone say before a fight!..lol..i told her she had to get out more!...lmao!..

I dont talk shit,...never seen the point in it....the fact remains, that this is a fight...you can be a black belt in BJJ, a state wrestling champ, and a general bad-ass...you can be all of that and get caught in a sub, or KO'ed...its a fight after all...and there are a THOUSAND ways to loose in MMA!..lol.

Often when fighters are interviewed before fights it makes me cringe to see them working so hard on their " talk " you can see they have tried so hard to come up with something different that still sounds " hard"....most of it is laughable....i like the way randy couture conducts himself,he is respectful and simply wants to win...and says so !.....like i say,at top level i dont think fighters need to sell themself but unfortunately it seems for guys on the way up selling themself outside the ring is almost as important as selling themself inside it....and for that i do think the american hype anything that moves attitude is largely to blame...lets face it if an up and coming lad was interviewed and just told the truth it simply wouldnt be interesting enough...sad but true.

I think between most fighters the respect IS there...its just not fashionable to be respectful these days.

WELL LADS ,

I DONT KNOW ABOUT HARD TALK BEFORE FIGHTS ......... PERSONALLY IVE ALWAYS LOOKED AT IT AS A PART OF ANY FIGHT , A LOT OF FIGHTERS NEED THIS HYPE TO GET " THEMSELVES " INTO FIGHT MODE ,

TROUBLE IS ...... MOST OF THE CAGE FIGHTERS IVE SEEN HAVE MORE BARK THAN BITE ....

MOST CANNOT STAND UP WITH A PUNCHER AND INDEED LOOK CHINNEY ...... HAVE ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE DEFENCES ......... AND VERY FEW CAN PUNCH WORTH A CRAP .....

WORK ON THAT HAND WORK KYE .......... FROM WHAT IVE SEEN MOST OF THEM LADS HAVENT GOT A CLUE WHAT TO MAKE OF A GOOD FIST MAN , AND DUCK FOR A TAKE DOWN

ALL THE BEST

DUCKWING

Well boys I was correct with my predictions :boxing: GSP took Koscheck to the mat and controlled him, I would have expected him to stand, perhapds that what threw Koscheck off. Also Randy got in Gonzagas face and despite the size disadvantage looked a class act again and I can't imagine theres a nicer guy in the sport....

yep well done pal you called them both right i called them both totally wrong :whistling:

all things being equal couture is possibly the most remarkable sportsmen ive ever seen in any sport,he just shouldnt be able to do what he does at that age,and age not just being a number i mean the punishment his body has taken over the years.....he is the ultimate professional and an unbelievable physical specimen and i think he is actually improving !!

koscheck looked like he froze a little but st.pierre looked sharp and hungry.

glad to see frank mir did well....how about ronato sobral...bit naughty that,i havent seen it yet but apparently there talking of him being banned for life !! seems a bit much.
