Just wondered about peoples predictions for the two main bouts at this weekends event.

Couture (15 wins.8 losses) vs Gonzaga (8 wins. 1 loss)

My opinion is that Randy will be better on the feet and also has a great ground and pound although Gonzaga has a Jiu Jitsu background. Although Randy is giving away some size (again), I think he will remain the champ. Randys list of opponents is a whos who of MMA and I don't believe Gonzaga has faced an opponent of Coutures quality.

St Pierre (13 wins.2 losses)( vs Koscheck (9 wins and 1 loss)

This could be the fight of the night, I think both fighters have good stand up and are very quick. St Pierre can throw from awkward angles and I don't like the way Koscheck boxes with his chin stuck out. Koscheck has excellent wrestling skills and St Pierre has good Ju Jitsu, this fight could be exciting both on the feet or on the ground as both fighters are athletic, aggressive and a win would almost guarentee a shot at Matt Serras belt. I predict a win for St Pierre.

What are you opinions?

I don't think this sport causes any violence, two men set against each other fairly evenly with just there skill and determination to win a fight.

A bit of a contrast to the f*****g little rats going around shooting or stabbing a usually un-armed victim.

By the way I'm not even a follower of this sport, bit to much holding and rolling about for my likeing.

my opinion is if there wasnt so much shit like this on tv then the world wouldnt be such a violent place, hope they both lose :)

Surely your not linking a controlled sport with violence in society. Surely if you hope they both lose you are advocating violence

I think your predictions are pretty good, and,I do hope that St. Pierre beats the crap out of Koscheck,as I can't stand him. And,Randy is like a God in the cage,so I hope he wins as well.

I'm not getting into a detailed debate about the rights and wrongs of whats broadcast on tv, I was just interested in hearing peoples opinions on the results, not the morality. I enjoy MMA and as a kid I also enjoyed watching saturday lunchtime wrestling and then as an older child the WWF, I also did competed in the odd judo competition as a boy and no I didn't grow up wanting to piledrive a granny through a glass table. The UFC has been around since 93" and other MMA organisations a lot longer without a number of incidents related to it. As for children watching unsuitable tv...I wouldn't let my two girls watch it, but then I am in charge of what they watch and use my discretion.

I think this guy could be something special in MMA. I saw him on WWF wrestling one night several years ago (no I don't normally watch that rubbish) and thought he had something special and would like to see him in MMA. He has a legitimate wrestling background and with correct training I think could develop into a monster....

Speedlamper, i would like to hear your opnions of the fights you have been to, the ones you have viewed on TV, the videos or DVD's you have seen, the seminars/training camps you have been to...can you explain the rules to me, how long the rounds are, what are the weight class'?....or are you like a Townie, who has NEVER seen/been hunting, but are FULL of opnions and 'facts' about summat you have never been apart of, seen or witnessed.

Hi Si,..

You know i want Randy to win, i REALY want him to win,..i mean, c'mon, its 'Captain America' for fucks sake..lol...but Gonzaga will be a a handfull, the guy is underated imo,...i think he very well could beat Randy...his BJJ is that good, and although i dont feel he has the hands and movement that Randy has, i do feel the size and strength, and the fact that he CAN kick may come into it...you cant compare Tim Sylvia to Gonzaga, Tim is a lumbering fool, Gonazaga is a talented athlete....all im gonna say is 'War Randy'..lol.

As for GSP Vs Koschech...i like both of there abilitys (but i HATE how arrogant Josh is) Josh is a much better wrestler, but who has he beaten with a truly dominating performance?...GSP HAS one with great fashion and probably has more strings to his bow,..i beleave GSP is more well rounded, him having a martial arts back ground...the thing i question about GSP is his heart...i think Josh has that desire to win, and although GSP does as well, that seems to leave him pretty quick once he gets clipped in the head!..lol...i hope GSP wins, just because he is more humble (although the fecker IS french) but i can see it going either way to be honest...

I look forward to the night, "C'mon Randy... :toast::boxing: "

Hi Jay,

The Couture/Gonzaga fight reminds me a little of the fight Couture had with Ricco Rodriguz, they are both similar size/build and specialised in BJJ, Randy was dominating Ricco until the size and fatigue became a factor then Ricco pulled victory from the jaws of defeat :( I believe Randy hired a nutritionist to increase in conditioning and endurance, as you say both Couture and St Pierre and gentlemen and excellent ambasadors for MMA. I think anyone listening to these guys speak would realise MMA fighters are not neanderthal monsters but competitive dedicated athletes

Whens your next bout Jay? :toast:

Well im going to stick my neck out and go against the grain here and disagree with you two lads.....i think gonzaga and koshcheck will both win.

firstly i know what its like to get to an age where your body wrongs you :D and as much as i want him to win i think gonzaga will have size strength and youth over randy and this time it may show...i know we have all said this several times before, but like i say, when you reach a certain age sometimes your body just doesnt perform in the way you are used to and this can happen real quick and may not be obvious until it happens, couple this with the fact that randys career seems to have taken a somewhat unpredictable path of late,he seems to win the fights we think he wont and loses a few we think he will win...im going with gonzaga and probably an end to coutures career.

st.pierre- koscheck i agree with kye im not sure st.pierre has the ability to dig deep in a real war,i think his punch resistance is probably ok but against someone in as equally good condition as himself who wont gas,and has the strength to dominate him,i wonder about his heart in that way...

so for me its Gonzaga win

Koscheck win.....hope im wrong on both !

for the fella who hates the sport.....i hate tiddlywinks but i dont slate people who love it....back yourself up with facts...and if you cant then stick to tiddlywinks !

They truly are Gentlemen, and great people to have in the sport mate, your right...when i go back to Vegas for a while (after going to John Lewis' place, and giving some of his guys a beating!..lol.) i wanna have a few sessions at "Xtreme Couture" gym/dojo...would be great to roll with some of those guys, although i doubt that Randy will be there much..

My next fight is for the "Champion of Champions" title...should be a good do...my strength is good, and my cardio is where it needs to be...we will start winding down next week, and not do much after wednesday, other than break a sweat...the fight is on Auguest 31st...the down side is im the main event again, and i HATE that,..i would much rather fight early.

There is another promotor just outside of town, and he wants me to gight an ANIMAL...the guy is the current USA, State, and ISCF World Champion...he has a record of 9-1-1, and he has KO'ed a bunch of people, but also submitted about five of his opponents, with Heel hooks, Omaplatas, and even one Go-goplata (VERY top level BJJ moves)...the way i look at it, i have nothing to loose right?...if i get beaten buy a guy of this calibre, then thats how it goes...but IF i win, bloody hell, what a career booster!... :toast::yes: ...the down side is, my thumb is still buggered on my right hand (had it dislocated a while back) and i still have a buggered rib, from having it broken at my May 5th fight,...i have had two fights with that rib being damaged, and its not doing me any good..its still not right...maybe let it heal, then just have a crack at this 'ard b*****d up the road eh?..lol.

All the best..

J.

i havent been to seen or want to see any fights! i dont see the enjoyment in 2 people hurting each other wether its controlled or not!

and what has that got to do with being a townie or goin hunting? i live on the outskirts of cheshire in a nice little village and go lamping nearly every weekend.

and if someone ASKS for opinions then i will give them, i never claimed to be full of facts, these are just my views! or do peoples opinions only count when there the same as yours?

dohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
