with this dog I have now. even though he can jump well I pick him up on every gate way,, dogs can jump well to be honest there not designed for landing from 4 /5 foot ,, not like a cat,,, the amount of lads ive bin out with at nite and let the dog jump gates most gate ways have hard core broken bricks etc. in them, the nite has bin cut short,, dogs are on a knifes edge with out all the jumping involved,,,most the time a dog can go under a gate iff you take the weight off the lock end,,

Mine will often choose to go under a gate or through it rather than over it.

I get what you saying though about the landing, some of the gates we go over leave a lot to be desired. Have had a few times when the big dog has got himself stuck in between the bars on the gate he is trying to get through, can make a right racket!

I also much prefare a dog to go through or under..but sometimes that is not possible and i hate picking dog's up to drop over the fence as you can some times cause just as much greif if you drop them wrong..so jumping is a must for me even though it makes me cringe at times..

used to do the same when getting the spaniels over sort lean against the wire and reach down and place them, I know what you mean with falling stones when the dogs jump over but have been lucky in the past. Remember the same thing happening to a mate in the dales when we must have been about 8, he used a big rock to steady himself when climbing over and it toppled off landing on his lower leg breaking both the bones in his lower leg, still walks with a limp 25 years later. Doctors made a right mess of putting it right as well

How come a dog jumping a double barbed wire fence when you take a photo is anymore dangerous than when you ain't taking a photo?

:icon_eek:

I think its only more dangerous when you send it back over 25 times till you get the right shot
