Firearms Terminology

Recommended Posts

Ahhh - thank you.

So Hornaby and Winchester are just makes of ammunition?

Hornady and Winchester ARE makes of ammo but in this case it is just terminology. i.e you can buy WMR ammo made my another manufacturer and same with HMR.

Thanks for your help. I am trying to understand rifles as I am new to this.

Shotguns just seem so much easier!

So to clarify.

Can I use for example a .22WMR round in the same gun as a .22Hornet?

no a hornet is a center fire

The bullet heads are the same diameter, more or less?

The number part gives you the calibre and the letters give you the cartridge type..

Aah..the £6 million dollar question. In theory, yes. MY FAC says .22RF and my FEO is happy if I want to buy a wmr. My RFD said he would happily sell me one, but some forces are picky.
